Ah yes. What is possibly one of the most anticipated anime of 2018 and we are still in January. Shingeki no Kyojin? Forget it. It's all about Violet Evergarden.

Isn't this the one that Netflix keeps boggling and pushing back around the globe? It's coming Spring to the west but Winter to Japan, whatever that means. I sure hope this doesn't hurt it.

This is another anime with a main character suffering mental anguish who has to search for a path for themselves in life. This is a big trend right now in anime and tends to move viewers greatly. We saw it in Plastic Memories, Suka Suka, and Mahoutsukai no Yome too. Kyoto Animation has a winner on its hands.

Synopsis

Auto Memories Doll: Quite some time has passed since this name created a commotion.

Professor Orland created a machine to record human speech. Originally made just for his beloved wife, the machine quickly became popular worldwide and an organisation offering rentals was also established.

“If a customer so desires it, I will hurry to wherever they are. I am Violet Evergarden of the Auto Memories Doll Service.” Says a blonde-haired blue-eyed woman, looking as though she’s stepped out of a story, in a voice sweetly ringing with robotic beauty.

Three Episode Impression

Violet Evergarden has been praised widely for months after there was an advance screening last fall. Fans went rabid leaving it stellar reviews off of the two episodes seen and continued to praise it nonstop saying it would overshadow all other anime this winter season. Now, while there is a drought of good anime currently, Violet is certainly not the top anime this season. The show is good. It tells the story of a individual who was a tool of war, but now that the war is over, she has no idea what to do with herself and is looking for Gilbert, a man she served under. After receiving help from Claudia, another man who worked under Gilbert, she starts to find a new life as an auto memories doll, someone who takes the feelings and thoughts of others and composes them into letters. Awkward, single-minded,and lost, Violet struggles in her new place of employment as she learns. Kyoto Animation has really used every single trick they have to make this anime successful and it shows. There are excellent seiyuu, the characters make you believe and feel as if their drama and emotions are real, and the art is par-none beautiful. In fact, if we had to ask for anything else, it would be a little bit more happiness. While Violet Evergarden is an excellent anime, there is a deep sadness that not only lurks in the corners of the story, but it permeates through the characters in their wording and actions. The drama is excellent and even though this episode review is only as of episode 3, the series really does manage to tell a long, drawn-out yet fulfilling story at the same time.
