1. Log Horizon

  • Episodes: 25
  • Aired: Oct, 2013- Mar, 2014

College student Shiroe was pretty happy to download a new expansion for his favorite MMORPG called Elder Tale. However, something very strange happened to Shiroe as well as thousands of other players in Elder Tale. One minute they were enjoying Elder Tale from the comforts of their homes and computer monitors, then they were transported inside the game with no reason why! Now Shiroe alongside those trapped in the game must ban together to learn how this new world works and if there is a way to escape the game. Shiroe will need to rely on his years of playing Elder Tale to aid him to survive this new world he’s been sent into.

The primary theme of isekai is for a character to go from their world to another for reasons like dying in the real world or being mysteriously summoned to some strange new place. It’s the idea of Death March Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku and it’s also the theme for Log Horizon which begins our list of 6 Anime Like Death March Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku list. Similar to Death March Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku, Log Horizon has our titular protagonist—in this case the awkward and shy Shiroe—being transported into a game world he’s all too familiar with. Shiroe also mirrors Ichirou Suzuki as both of them get pretty overpowered early on, though with Shiroe his level is based on the level he earned via playing Elder Tale and not accidentally like Ichirou. Both Log Horizon and Death March Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku are pretty similar in ideas, genres and story meaning if you love Death March Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku you’ll most certainly love Log Horizon. At 2 seasons already, Log Horizon will give you a nice number of episodes to watch while you wait for new episodes of Death March Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku.

2. Overlord

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: Jul, 2015- Sept, 2015

Within the world of Yggdrasil, there existed powerful clans one of which was known as Ainz Ooal Gown. Led by a powerful monstrous skeleton mage called Momonga, Ainz Ooal Gown was well known for having some of the strongest beast-like players in all of Yggdrasil. However, like many online games, Yggdrasil was destined to come to an end and with it, Momonga was destined to fade into obscurity. However, the player behind Momonga found that when Yggdrasil came to an end, he wasn’t logged out of the game but was instead transported into it. Now embodying Momonga, this once regular player must lead his clan’s now sentient NPCs in person and not behind a keyboard and mouse like once before.

Here at Honey’s Anime HQ, we’ve put a fair amount of time into numerous MMORPGs—massively multiplayer online role-playing games for those who don’t know—and we can understand the pain of a popular MMO dying out. Though in the case of Momonga, we can’t understand what it feels like to actually posses the body of the character you once controlled via external methods. That’s why we love Overlord though. With an impressive art style, solid animation and a very cool narrative, Overlord lets us see what it would be like to go into a strange world filled with beasts and other fantasy themes. Overlord season 2 is actually airing right now as we speak and thus if you like Death March Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku now’s the perfect time to catch up on Overlord.

3. Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! (KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!)

  • Episodes: 10
  • Aired: Jan, 2016- Mar, 2016

If you asked Kazuma Satou what he loved in life, he would tell you the same thing most neets do: Playing video games and watching anime. Though that all changed for Satou when he tried—keyword “tried”—to rescue what he thought was a girl in danger and ended up dying in the process. Despite Satou’s death being pointless—as he learns the girl in danger wasn’t in danger at all and he just panicked giving himself a heart attack—he’s given a choice to either be reincarnated in a new body or journey to a new world to defeat the Demon King. Satou decides on an action-packed life instead of a chance at another boring one and enters the fantasy world and brings Aqua—an annoying goddess—with him. Satou’s new fun filled—and potentially dangerous—life begins anew in this fantasy comedy anime known as Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! might not be serious in anyway possible, but that’s what makes it such an amazing comedy isekai. We absolutely love the cast of characters in Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! and equally love the humor from their interactions with one another. With that being said, are you finding Death March Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku too akin to a video game world and need something less serious? Why not try out Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!? Trust us, by episode 1 of Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!, you’ll be laughing so hard tears will be running down your face folks.

4. Knight’s & Magic

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: Jul, 2017- Sept, 2017

Are you someone who loves robots? What would you give to be able to not only live in a world filled with them but also the chance at piloting them? Well, one young otaku who loved robots got his chance at doing exactly this when he died one day and was resurrected in a different world. Here the young man goes by the name of Ernesti Echevarria—Eru to his comrades and friends—and despite having a feminine look and short stature, he’s quite capable of piloting the mechs known as Silhouette Knights. Journey alongside Eru in this mecha fantasy anime called Knight’s & Magic.

While Death March Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku might be pretty enjoyable it’s missing something and that something is mecha. Luckily for you folks there is an anime mecha series with an isekai story called Knight’s & Magic. Watch as a young otaku man gets a new lease on life when he goes from building model robots to piloting and designing real life ones in Knight’s & Magic. We really enjoyed this 13-episode series known as Knight’s & Magic and we know you’ll like it too if you enjoyed Death March Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku. Plus, unlike Death March Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku the whole series is out meaning you can binge Knight’s & Magic to your heart’s content.

5. Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni. (In Another World With My Smartphone)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: Jul, 2017- Sept, 2017

God is supposed to be the perfect being, unable to make mistakes and thus is flawless. Well, tell that to Touya Mochizuki who died because of a mistake by God’s hand. Thankfully, God realized he messed up with poor Touya and thus gives him a new life to make up for his folly. Touya is given an enhanced body and a special version of his smartphone—which he requested to keep with him—before he is sent to a new fantasy world to live in. Touya’s new life begins here and no matter the danger’s ahead he always can rely on his skills and smartphone to save the day. Though will that be enough to deal with some threats, namely the female kind?

Now, maybe you’re liking Death March Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku but want an isekai series that’s a bit less action focused. Well then why not try out studio Production Reed’s Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni? While it might not be a bit more lax in terms of action and threats, Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni. does have some ecchi, harem and comedy aspects. There’s also some action here and there with Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni. just to keep things from being stale. We fully recommend checking out Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni as we liked here at Honey’s Anime. Ichirou Suzuki might be overpowered in Death March Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku but he doesn’t have a smartphone like Touya does and that is something we’d want if we were resurrected in a new world.
