Anime-Gataris-300x450 Anime-Gataris - Fall 2017
Huh. This one is an original from WAO World. Interesting. It looks like Genshiken meets Shoujotachi wa Koya wo Mezasu meets what… Gamers!?
Anime-Gataris-300x450 Anime-Gataris - Fall 2017
I was just going to say that maybe like Haruhi!! It’s all about people being sucked into some kind of club activity. So, less comedy and more discussions? Could this be seinen?
Anime-Gataris-300x450 Anime-Gataris - Fall 2017
It could be borderline seinen. It really depends on how many jokes that they pack into the series. It could end up like Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata.
Anime-Gataris-300x450 Anime-Gataris - Fall 2017
We could also get something just like Gabriel DropOut where it is all girls. It just depends on how the story progresses. Either way, the story is not showing boys thus far.

Synopsis

Minoa Asagaya has just entered into Sakaneko Private Academy. In spite of the fact that Minoa is brand new to anime, her classmate Arisu Kamiigusa drags her along in hopes of establishing an anime research club. Because of her classmate Miko Kouenji and senpai who are interested in anime, Minoa gradually is sucked into the world of anime. While the anime research club fights against an obstinate student council that recommends their disbandment, and not realizing that the world is approaching destruction, today too, they discuss anime in the club room, in Akihabara, at holy places, and at hot springs.

Three Episode Impression

If you are a fan of otaku-themed anime, then one anime this season that should catch your attention is Anime-Gataris. What makes Anime-Gataris attention catching has to be all of the anime references that the show uses to catch your attention. Right from the start with The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya references to cosplay culture, otaku will find a lot of enjoyment as they relate to the many aspects of Anime-Gataris. Anime-Gataris starts off the same way Gamers! did with its high amount of relatability, it does not fall off track in that same manner. Instead, it continues playing off of the same idea of instating an anime club for a while and hints at something deeper below the surface. However, mostly, Anime-Gataris is full of stupid antics like any anime club. It’s not an anime you get into for a deep plot and real development, but it is something to watch if you have no expectations and want something to watch casually.

Characters & Voice Actors List

Minoa Asagaya

Voice Actor: Kaede Hondo

A first-year student at Sakaneko Academy and an anime beginner. She enters the anime research club due to her unfortunate tendency to get dragged into things. She ends up being pulled this way and that by the various club members and their different tastes, and she still hasn’t found her own favourite anime. She’s a klutz, but once she decides to do something she has a habit of running headfirst into it.

Arisu Kamiigusa

Voice Actor: Sayaka Senbongi

Minoa’s classmate and a rich girl from a well-to-do family. Even when she’s not talking, her poshness is overflowing and no one will approach her, so she’s got no one to talk to about the anime she loves so much. The daughter of the president of a large trading company, she thinks she can resolve anything and everything with money. She may look stubborn and on her high horse, but the truth is she gets lonely easily.

Miko Kouenji

Voice Actor: Hisako Toujou

Minoa’s classmate whose looks and personality are plain. She’s not good at standing out from the crowd and she’s always quietly reading in the classroom. Her recent favourites are really chuunibyou light novels. She loves anime adaptations of light novels and truly loves their original works. She’s aiming to be a novelist herself, and secretly posts work online.

Mitsuki Nakano

Voice Actor: Junta Terashima

A second-year student at Sakaneko Academy and member of the anime research club. He’s handsome and popular with girls, but he’s a serious fan of idol anime. Whenever he talks about the things he likes, he tends to get a bit freaky. A good, kind upperclassman who helps Minoa when she’s in trouble.

Kai Musashikai

Voice Actor: Setsuo Itou

A second-year student at Sakaneko Academy and member of the anime research club. His favourite genre is superpower battle anime. He often speaks like the main character of a battle anime, so those around him keep their distance. He’s your typical chuunibyou character. Those around him call him ‘Kaikai,’ but he doesn’t accept the nickname. Despite his suspicious behaviour, Mitsuki often talks to him and they get on well.

Erika Aoyama

Voice Actor: Anju Inami

Minoa’s upperclassman, a third-year student at Sakaneko Academy and president of the anime research club. She doesn’t have a favourite genre in particular and will watch pretty much any anime, but she has a strong attachment to warrior-girl anime aimed at kids. Her hobby is cosplay. When she was in middle school, she lived in America due to her parents’ work.

Yui Obata

Voice Actor: Rie Takahashi

A first-year student at Sakaneko Academy and Minoa’s friend. A member of the track and field club. She worries about Minoa, who gets dragged into the anime research club, but watches over her warmly as she finds something to be passionate about. She has a lot of secret fans in school. She loves yakiniku (Japanese barbequed meat).
