Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane are the school celebrities! The two serve together on the student council and act composed all day in front of each other—but their emotions underneath the surface tell a completely different story. Neither Kaguya nor Miyuki are willing to admit their feelings for one another, and they spend their days trying to force the other to confess! Locked in a truly epic battle for love, who will be the first to admit their feelings to their counterpart?
Chika Fujiwara Highlights (Spoilers Beyond This Point)
1. She is Surprisingly Cunning
Chika Fujiwara is often seen as the sweet and oblivious member of the student council. Yet under that façade, we see a more calculating, cunning Chika than you might expect! She does do some plotting, especially when it comes to outsmarting someone at a game, and has even been known to cheat. However, she is unable to think as far ahead as Kaguya or Miyuki, resulting in her cheating to be discovered quickly. Despite this, Chika will continue to try her best to win in her own way. For example, when she challenges Miyuki and a reluctant Ishigami to a game in order to determine who will visit Kaguya, she attempts to use a loaded deck at first, but is quickly discovered. Afterward, she tries to implement a strategy to help with her memory of the cards, but Miyuki figures it out, resulting in him ultimately winning the game!
2. She is Airheaded…
Chika comes off to everyone around her as an immensely ditzy person. She is childish in many of her actions and has a lax view of school, as seen when she decides to not study any more for her finals. Chika also bounces back quickly from disappointing situations, such as losing a game to her fellow council members. She gets excited easily, especially about matters involving love, though she herself has never had a boyfriend. Chika even creates a persona for herself, the “Love Detective Chika,” to solve matters of the heart!
3. But Actually Talented
Even though Chika acts simple-minded, she is actually quite intelligent. She does well enough in school that she doesn’t have to worry about her grades. This is even despite her lack of constant studying, unlike her friends! Chika and her family travel often, as seen when she goes on a summer vacation to multiple countries, and she knows at least 5 different languages. She also has many other random hobbies, including playing the piano, volleyball, and puzzles. Chika may seem like a bit of an airhead, but her true talents lie hidden beneath her eccentric personality!
4. She is Unpredictable
One of the best parts about Chika is that she is completely unpredictable. Through all the different events that transpire between Kaguya and Miyuki, Chika is there to either help or hinder the plans! Despite her interest in the topic of love, she is unable to read the atmosphere of the room. This results in many of Kaguya’s and Miyuki’s plans going awry, as Chika steps in with her wild personality. At times, the two are able to lure Chika into reacting a certain way, especially since Kaguya has been close with her for so long. However, no one can truly predict what Chika will do, as evidenced when she starts rapping out of nowhere one episode!
5. Her Relationship with Kaguya and Miyuki
What makes Chika such a great character is her ability to relate to Kaguya and Miyuki as she helps them grow throughout the course of the show. Chika has been friends with Kaguya since they were young, though Kaguya often looks down on her. Even though the two don’t always seem close, they know each other better than most. Chika also cares about Miyuki, helping train him in volleyball when he ends up falling flat, even though it exhausts her. She is a kind person, doing her best to be a good friend to both of them!
Final Thoughts
Chika is such a fun and unusual character, even in an anime that is rather unusual for its genre. We love her cute, quirky nature with all of her random hobbies and passions, and we honestly wish there were more episodes f the series, just so we could see more of her antics!
