Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii (Wotakoi: Love is Hard for an Otaku) Preview (No Spoilers)
Old middle school friends have met once more at the same company in adulthood. They are both otaku and find solace in each other’s company despite one being a fujoshi and the other being a gaming otaku. However, is a relationship in the works for these two?
Nifuji Hirotaka Highlights
1. Upfront
If there’s something we love about Hirotaka, it’s that he’s quite upfront about his own feelings, even if he seems to be quite reserved about them. Right at the beginning, Hirotaka asked out Narumi. Hirotaka even has no problem telling Tarou he appears scary, which would terrify many people. Hirotaka is just honest and open about what’s on his mind, even when it throws people off, which is just one big reason why we love him!
2. Stoic-Loner Type
One of our favorite anime character tropes has to be the stoic type. Combine that with the loner type and you have Hirotaka. Even during lunch breaks, Hirotaka goes off on his own to play games by himself making the most of his lunch breaks. Any other gamers out there relate to that? As a boyfriend, this might not seem appealing, but at least Hirotaka is self-entertaining and doesn’t need much to be satisfied with his life. Hirotaka enjoys his time alone, and that’s something we love in a guy!
3. Gamer
Building on our last point, you absolutely have to love how much of a gamer otaku Hirotaka is. You know he enjoys his video games, even if he does enjoy playing them solo. Despite bein the loner type, Hirotaka can play MMORPGs with the best of them as shown in episode 7 when Hirotaka is able to defeat the dragon without getting even a little damage. Sure, he sucks as a team player, but considering how strong he is for an MMORPGs, it shows how good he can get all on his own. That shows gaming prowess. Let’s not forget about all of the other games he plays like that Monster Hunter look-a-like!
4. Cute Side
There is a cuter side of Hirotaka in his rather odd relationship with Narumi. Sure, he seems to just want to play games and hang out casually, but as we’ve seen in episode 8, Hirotaka actually really seems to adore Narumi and has been in love with her since they were young. When Narumi got a boyfriend who had ear piercings, Hirotaka spontaneously tried to pierce his own ears! It’s so cute to see Hirotaka have this jealous, insecure side!
5. Has a Weak Side
Of course, there is a weaker side of Hirotaka that absolutely had us in awe! Yes, we’re talking about episode 8 when it was raining and thunder roared. Hirotaka would do things like hide or hit his head, which made him appear like a slacker or absentminded, but it shows his weaker side, even if it doesn’t outright look like he’s weak. Hirotaka requires some sort of comfort, which is surprising because of how good he is in other aspects of his life like his work and gaming. The really funny part of it all is that Hirotaka is scared of the sound of thunder because it brings back memories of losing video games. Ha!
Final Thoughts
Yes, he may not seem special right off the bat, but Hirotaka has many good sides to him that we know he is worthy of being our Honey’s Crush Wednesday! We’ve really enjoyed Hirotaka in Wotakoi this season. What about all of you readers out there? What do you think of our special megane character? Share all of your thoughts down below!
