Machikado Mazoku (The Demon Next Door) Preview (No Spoilers)
Yuko Yoshida is just like your average everyday girl, except for the fact that she is a descendant of the dark clan. One day, Yuko's powers awaken and she is ordered to kill a magical girl and lift the curse on her family by her ancestor Lilith. With her newfound abilities, Yuko sets out to defeat a magical girl, but she learns just how hard it will be when she is saved by a magical girl named Momo, who was able to stop a truck with one hand. Despite the odds not being in her favor, Yuko vows to defeat Momo and stop the poverty curse that has plagued her family for generations.
Yuuko Yoshida Highlights (Spoilers Beyond This Point)
1. Shadow Mistress Yuko
Yuko is incredibly lacking in the skills needed to defeat a magical girl. She has no real magical powers and her physical strength is laughably bad. However, Yuko doesn't let any of this stop her and tries her hardest every day to improve in hopes of one day removing the curse on her family. No matter how many times she fails, you can always count on Yuko to keep on trying.
2. Clumsy Yuko
Although it may be one of her flaws, Yuko's clumsiness is one of the cutest aspects of her character. Yuko struggles with completing everyday tasks and is often seen falling down and messing everything up in general. She never lets this get her down though is always in high spirits despite all of the rough times she has.
3. Yuko’s Love for Food
Yuko has lived a life enjoying the simple food her mother is able to create on their small budget. However, once she starts hanging out with Momo we get to see her try all kinds of new food. Whether she is trying udon with her friends, or having an okonomiyaki party with her family, it is always heartwarming to watch Yuko get so much joy out of something so simple.
4. Yuko and Momo
Ever since she met Momo, Yuko has been enjoying her life to the fullest. Thanks to Momo, Yuko has got to experience all kinds of things she never had before. Although she has a one-sided rivalry with her, Yuko's best qualities come out when she is around Momo. With the help of Momo, we get to see just how kind and caring Yuko is while also getting to see her cute and clumsy side.
5. Shopping for Ryo
After working hard at her part-time job to pay off her debt to Momo, Momo declined her money and told Yuko to spend it on herself. Yuko decides that instead of using on her or wasting it more food, that she would buy her little sister Ryo anything she wanted. Despite some initial hesitation by Ryo, Yuko spends her hard-earned money on the little camera Ryo had her eye on. It is nice to see how selfless Yuko is and despite having more money in her possession than she has ever had before, she thinks of Momo and Ryo before even considering spending the money on herself.
Final Thoughts
Yuko is such a great character with so much to love about her. She is a little headstrong and isn't very good at most things, but with her love for her family and friends, along with her strong desire to help those around her, you can't help but root for Yuko in everything she does.
