Competitive multiplayer games are something that really bring out the gamers inside us here at Honey’s Anime. There’s nothing better than entering a game and having to struggle to earn kills and survive against other players. For that very reason one of our favorite games like this would be PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds by developer PUBG Corp. Reminding us of the manga—as well as movie and novel—Battle Royale, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds puts players in a scenario where survival is a mixture of luck and skill in equal measures. In one match you may find all the equipment needed to survive or in another you’ll be fighting others with nothing other than a frying pan hoping to rip gear off a dead enemy. Regardless of the hand you’re ultimately dealt, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is always fun and truly stands as one of the better games of 2017 even if it’s still an early access title.
Though maybe you want a change of pace and are looking for other games to play besides PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Then you’re in luck as we here at Honey’s Anime are way ahead of you, folks. Today we’re going to be releasing a list of video games similar to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. From other battle royale games to games about survival using not just players but other enemies, these games we’re about to list will help you find a nice game to enjoy if you’re getting burnt out of your millionth match of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Welcome one and all to Honey’s Anime list of 6 Games Like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
Similar Game to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
1. ARMA 3: Battle Royale
- System: PC, OS X
- Publisher: Bohemia Interactive
- Developer: Bohemia Interactive
- Release Dates: Sept 12, 2013
Starting off our list we look at ARMA 3: Battle Royale. Though what’s interesting about this particular game is that it’s actually not a base game by definition. ARMA 3: Battle Royale is actually a legal mod that can be downloaded into ARMA 3 changing the game type. Instead of being a regular multiplayer game or playing the single player, ARMA 3: Battle Royale ends up becoming a free for all where players must survive till they are the last man standing. If this sounds familiar you aren’t wrong as this is indeed the same formula seen in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
Now some might make the claim that ARMA 3: Battle Royale and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds are almost mirror images of each other in their set up. Well the reason for this is that the main designer—known online ironically as PlayerUnknown—crafted the mod that allows players of ARMA 3 to engage the battle royale mode. Which ultimately was the beginning of the creation to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. That’s why if you want a military version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds then we fully recommend downloading ARMA 3: Battle Royale.
2. Rust: Battle Royale
- System: PC, macOS
- Publisher: Facepunch Studios
- Developer: Facepunch Studios
- Release Dates: Dec 11, 2013
Back in late 2013, Rust released on the PC. Many gamers enjoyed this more violent and visceral survival game that harkened the highly popular Minecraft title. However, one of the elements we loved about Rust was the multiplayer aspect which became significantly better once a mod came along. Rust would then be played not for just it’s Minecraft-esque gameplay but for it’s free for all multiplayer focused theme.
That’s why for those who love PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds but want a more savage-like experience you might want to try out Rust: Battle Royale. Like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, players of Rust: Battle Royale go around large-scale maps trying to find weapons and tools to kill off other players. Also, similar to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is that all equip able goods in Rust: Battle Royale are randomized on the map. That means if you think that house you see in the distance will always provide the same machine gun, you’ll be sorely mistaken. With chaotic gameplay that keeps the theme of Rust alive but enhances it with a very fun survival free for all game mode, Rust: Battle Royale is definitely a game you must try if you enjoyed PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
3. The Culling
- System: PC, Xbox One
- Publisher: Xaviant
- Developer: Xaviant
- Release Dates: Mar 4, 2016
16 players are about to enter a battlefield. However, only one of them can win. With no rules each player must survive by any means they feel are necessary. There is no kindness here only brutal survival. Can you become the next victor in The Culling!?
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is considered by most gamers to be pretty brutal. We obviously understand that sentiment since it’s 1 vs 100 others to be the champion. However, if you want an even more brutal game that’s like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds then let us point you towards The Culling. Created by Xaviant, The Culling plays out like a game show where 16 players must go at each other till only one stands. With swords, bows, guns, poisons and various other weapons/tools, The Culling gives the player a wide berth of how to take down their enemies. We absolutely love The Culling and we know many of you other there need to try it out as well.

In H1Z1, up to 150 players go out into various battle fields and must kill their opponents to be crowned the victor. Players can choose to 1 vs 150 and or even team up in small teams to win. Parachuting in—all too like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds—players will then have to find weapons and other items such as armor and even make their own weapons via an in-game crafting system. However, H1Z1 times players as a poisonous cloud constantly begins to envelop the map. If you want to win, you must work fast all while being smart in H1Z1.
H1Z1 is what many of us consider the larger scale PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Then add the fact that your timed thanks to the ever-expanding poison gas cloud and you have one of the faster paced free for all games out there. What also makes H1Z1 stand out is the fact that you can actually create makeshift weapons which adds a feeling of desperately struggling to survive. That’s why if you haven’t tried out H1Z1 yet you’re definitely missing out on a great multiplayer themed game similar to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. That’s why H1Z1 earns a spot on our 6 Games Like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds list.

5. DayZ

- Publisher: Bohemia Interactive
- Developer: Bohemia Interactive
- Release Dates: Feb 21, 2013
DayZ—which is actually a mod for ARMA 2 but does have a standalone planned for 2017—throws players into a zombie infested world. Players must search random generated maps for various things such as food, water and medicine as well as weapons and tools. DayZ also adds a realistic element where players can get damaged from falls and lack of supplies and even be killed by other players will ill intentions. If you want a multiplayer game that fuses free for all themes with zombie gameplay, then you’re looking for DayZ.
As most gamers will say, zombies make everything better. Here at Honey’s Anime we also agree that zombies are amazing and what better game to prove that then DayZ. Similar to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, players go out and kill each other in small city-like maps but with the addition of zombies. So, not only do you need to kill off other players but you also have to deal with bloodthirsty zombies constantly trying to kill you. Add to that the survival elements of needing water and food and DayZ becomes a true survivor battle royale that might even more intense than PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

6. Fortnite: Battle Royale
- System: PC, macOS, PS4, Xbox One
- Publisher: Epic Games
- Developer: Epic Games, People Can Fly
- Release Dates: Jul 25, 2017
Fortnite has become even better as Epic Games and People Can Fly have given players a new way to play called Fortnite: Battle Royale. In Fortnite: Battle Royale players enter either free for all matches and or team based squads as they fight each other. With only a pickaxe upon beginning a match, players must begin to break down various items to get guns and building materials. Players are also on the clock as the area around them begins to shrink in size and if players are outside a certain boundary they will get hurt and eventually die. No zombies only players in Fortnite: Battle Royale.
We conclude our 6 Games Like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds with Fornite’s free DLC called Fortnite: Battle Royale. Removing the zombies from the game, Fortnite: Battle Royale throws players into large scale fights mirroring many games on this list including PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. What makes Fortnite: Battle Royale so different in comparison to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is that it’s the same base game of Fortnite but with impressive visuals as well. This means smart players can create different forms of defense such as towers, buildings and even traps to defeat their players. We already loved Fortnite here at Honey’s Anime but Fortnite: Battle Royale is easily one of our favorite DLCs ever in a multiplayer game like this. If you want a robust battle royale game with even more gameplay options then PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds then download this free—yes we said free—DLC for Fortnite: Battle Royale.
