1. Xenoblade (Xenoblade Chronicles)
- System/Platform: Wii, New Nintendo 3DS
- Publisher: Nintendo
- Developer: Monolith Soft, Monster Games (New Nintendo 3DS)
- Release Date: Jun 10, 2010
Long ago there was a battle between two gods Mechonis and Bionis, their battle destined to last forever. As time passed the two Gods met a stalemate during a particularly rough battle and they ceased to move, this allowed life to be born on top of these two massive deities. However, both Gods found that the lives of the humans on their bodies decided to continue their war becoming two separate groups, those who lived on Bionis were named Homs and those who were nestled on Mechonis were dubbed Mechon. During one fight a warrior for the Homs wielded a strange but powerful sword named Monado, the only weapon that could destroy the armor of Mechon troops. Unable to use the blade effectively however, the warrior lost the Monando and within a year time frame a young man named Shulk would find it changing his life forever.
Xenoblade Chronicles is the game fans of the Tales of series will want to play. Players take control of Shulk and several others and are allowed a mixture between real time movement and set controls for doing various attacks to an enemy. While the gameplay might not mirror Tales of games, the epic story, fun characters and gorgeous graphics do. Players will find a lengthy adventure that never gets old and that’s a theme that Tales of games share. While there is a portable version of Xenoblade Chronicles, we recommend the original on the Wii for the best performance.

The dream of many gamers is to experience the wonderful world of anime in a video game setting. 4. Kingdom Hearts II
- System/Platform: PS2
- Publisher: Square Enix, Buena Vista Games, Sony Computer Entertainment (EU,AUS)

- Release Date: Dec 22, 2005
Kingdom Hearts II should need little introduction to fans of Disney and Square Enix titles. Roxas, our starting hero, awakens realizing summer is about to end unfortunately. Deciding to enjoy the most before the summer’s end, Roxas alongside his friends have fun and enjoy their time together until a strange threat appears. After several events unfold players control the series main protagonist Sora who has been in a stasis like state for one year. Now older and told of the threat that befalls his friends and the various worlds, Sora once again goes off towards another adventure with his pals Goofy and Donald.
Kingdom Heart II is easily one of the best action JRPGs out there. Frenetic combat, plenty of lore for fans of Disney and Final Fantasy and beautiful graphics make Kingdom Hearts II a must play for those who have never ventured into the franchise. If you love Tales of games for their gameplay and incredibly storytelling you’ll find your heart taken away by Kingdom Hearts II. Overall, we highly recommend Kingdom Hearts II. Besides being a classic for the PS2 system, it is just a great game that echoes the greatness that is embodied in every Tales of game.
5. Valkyria Chronicles Remastered
- System/Platform: PS4
- Publisher: Sega
- Developer: Sega
- Release Date: Feb 10, 2016
The year is 1935 E.C. and the continent of Europa is still a war torn land. The eastern Europan Imperial Alliance still clashes with the western Atlantic Federation for dominance of a mineral that has multiple uses called Ragnite. On a calm day, Welkin Gunther the son of the famous General Belgen Gunther, is visiting his hometown. However, Welkin’s peaceful return is shattered when the Imperial forces attack. Teaming up with Alicia Melchiott, the two engage the forces to save not only themselves but the residence of the town. Welkin was once outside the grasp of the war, now he’s heading straight into it.
Replacing the sword and magic elements of Tales of games, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered still harbors the soul of a Tales of game inside its more militaristic stylings. Players will move Welkin and his troops in battle placing them in strategic areas all while in a real time element. While players move around the enemy can shoot back causing a need for reacting on the spot to find cover or a means of reacting quickly to avoid taking damage. Besides an incredibly unique gameplay element, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered also has stunning graphics that look reminiscent of a watercolor painting coming to life. If you wish to arm yourself with guns and tanks over swords and magic, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is here to grant your wish.

6. Final Fantasy XV

- Publisher: Square Enix
- Developer: Square Enix, XPEC Entertainment, Plusmile, HexaDrive, Streamline Studios
- Release Date: Nov 29, 2016
Ending our list we look at the latest entry into the Final Fantasy franchise, Final Fantasy XV. Prince Noctis Lucis Caelum decided to go on an adventure with his friends/retainers before his marriage to Lady Lunafreya but finds it cuts short. Noctis receives news of his homeland Lucis getting attacked by their constant enemy Niflheim and his father dying by their hands. Noctis now knows he must return to save his now inherited kingdom. Along the way Noctis will face many dangers and trials that will prepare him not only as a future king, but for the upcoming battle he will enter.
You may think: how can a Final Fantasy game be on a list of games like Tales of? Well Final Fantasy XV isn’t the traditional turn based JRPG the series is known for, instead players get to fully control Noctis in full action gameplay. Noctis, being his father’s son, has access to the use of summoning weapons such as spears, swords and even guns. Final Fantasy XV also boasts an incredibly large world that allows for hundreds of hours of just doing side quests if a player needs a lengthy experience in their JRPG fix. Tales of games and Final Fantasy XV should be considered brothers because of how similar both are and trust us we at Honey’s Anime aren’t complaining about that one bit.
