What You Need to Know:
- It seems like the maid cafes in Akiba aren't just serving up "moe moe" energy for their customers, as just this past week it was confirmed that 6 employees contracted COVID-19, increasing the number in Tokyo to more than 100. The cafe is known more commonly as "@home cafe" and is an incredibly popular establishment for not only otaku here in Japan, but for tourists who come to experience a taste of what Japan's otaku culture has to offer.
- Infinia, the company who runs the cafe, have issued a reponse to those who contracted the virus and have informed them to stay home to avoid further spreading. The cafe has indeed tried its best to adhere to the social distancing rules, by reminding customers to wear masks, reducing the number of seats available, and putting up panels to separate tables. Customers are still able to take photos with their favorite maid but only one at a time, with physical contact being prohibited.
- The maid cafe will not see a shutdown as the health and labor association has confirmed that they can continue their business as usual. Let's just hope people will take precaution when they enter the establishment.
Well...that kind of sucks..
You win some you lose some I guess...Need to be more mindful of these things!
