What You Need to Know:
- If there's truly one character that almost everyone in the anime world will be familiar with, it's none other then Himura Kenshin (real name is Shinta) from the popular Rurouni Kenshin series! While the series creator, Watsuki Nobuhiro, has faced some controversy throughout his career, that hasn't stopped fans from showing their love for the beloved franchise.
- Today we put that all behind us because we're celebrating Himura Kenshin's birthday! Also known as Hitokiri Battousai (Battousai the Manslayer) or Himura the Battousai throughout the series, he is the main lead of the show and carries many burdens along his long journey. At a young age both of his parents succumbed to cholera, leaving him with three slave women to take care of him.
- Unfortunately, these three women were slain by the hands of wild bandits but before they could feast their eyes on Himura, Seijuro Hiko slayed them all to spare his life. Seijuro Hiko decided to rename the young child Kenshin meaning "Heart of Sword" and from there, a new destiny unravels for him. He is then taught the infamous Hiten Mitsuruugi Ryu style which you'll see Himura Kenshiro use throughout the show!
- That's as close to spoiler free as you'll get, and so if you want to know more about Rurouni Kenshin and of course Kenshin himself, be sure to watch the show if you haven't already!
One of my favorite samurai of all time! Happy birthday to the legend!
If I could meet one anime character in real life, Kenshin would definitely be the one!
