Re-Destro and Tomura have been doing a lot of soul searching the last few chapters, but we see that hasn’t been for nothing. Chapter 238 of Boku no Hero Academia has our two leaders continuing their fight with Re-Destro going to 100% stress level! Tomura though has finally awakened something within himself and shrugs off the attack without much issue! As the two fight, Mr. Compress tries to contact the doctor for an immediate warp out for his fellow league warriors but is refused. Apparently, our scary doctor wants Tomura to be put into a corner and needs him to show off his true potential.
After a few more scenes focusing on Destro and his original goals for the Meta Liberation Army, Re-Destro powers up even further and goes—as Tomura claims—Plus Ultra now at 150% stress! Our chapter ends with Gigantomachia looming in the distance and the realization that we will be waiting about two weeks for chapter 239. We won’t lie, folks; chapter 238 wasn’t bad but neither was it perfect. Maybe it’s because the last few chapters were so incredible that we expected more from chapter 238, but this week we do have one negative we wish to bring up in our review. First though, let’s focus on why you should absolutely read chapter 238 of Boku no Hero Academia!
1. Plus Ultra Re-Destro!?
Though Re-Destro couldn’t get any taller and scarier? Well, folks, think again! Chapter 238 has our Meta Liberation Army leader getting even more stressed out, which in turn has amped his power up to Plus Ultra levels! Tomura might be powered up with his soul searching done, but to face off against this powerhouse might be tougher than he can handle. It will only get worse too when Gigantomachia appears!
2. The Doctor is Out?
The evil doctor seems to know that our league is struggling but as he tells Mr. Compress, no help is coming for them. Wishing for All for One’s legacy to be pushed into a literal corner, the doctor wants these villains to first stop the Meta Liberation Army and wants Tomura to prove his worth. Isn’t a doctor’s goal to help people…this doctor clearly is okay with our League of Villains getting stomped on to avoid being caught/discovered and that is quite surprising…well maybe not he is a bad doctor/scientist after all.
1. What was Accomplished?
If we’re being sincere for a moment, while we liked Boku no Hero Academia 238 we also wonder…was this just more padding to hype up the audience? Yes, Re-Destro has powered up to insane levels and Tomura seems to be itching to fight. Then you have Gigantomachia who again is left looming in the distance…really why did this chapter end this way? In our minds, if chapter 238 had a bit more of a push to show a bigger picture or plot point, we wouldn’t have had any issue with this short entry. Ultimately, chapter 238 of Boku no Hero Academia feels like it wants to hype us up even more and that kind of falters after such powerful chapters released only a few weeks ago.
Final Thoughts
Chapter 238 of Boku no Hero Academia gave us more hype and more desire to see what happens when all these powered up villains finally clash. Yet, there’s a weird feeling of déjà vu in this chapter. Already readers like us are excited to see what will happen in the coming chapters but chapter 238 just feels like a wasted opportunity. Do you agree with our thoughts?
