What You Need to Know:
- Life always delivers so many wonderful gifts and a lot of times, we often take them for granted. Back in the early days of gaming one prestigious company along with one genius (Junpei Yokoi) decided to release a handheld that would change the gaming world forever. That was Nintendo's Game Boy, which saw its release in Japan on this day April 21, 1989, and received global acclaim for its state-of-the-art visuals and design. Junpei's dream of creating a platform for players to take with them on the go had materialized and eventually became a household item for just about every child around the world. Sadly, Junpei didn't get much of a chance to see its proliferation as he sadly passed away a few years after its release but his legacy continues to live on!
- Had it not been for Junpei and his enormous contribution to creating an innovative platform for players to use, we would not have the likes of the Game Boy Advance, 3DS, Neo Geo Pocket, Sega's Game Gear, and even now the Nintendo Switch. The Game Boy ushered in what's now commonly known as the handheld market, where players are able to take their gaming experiences with them on the go, allowing for continuous gaming fun. We'll be honest, without the Game Boy we probably would not be where we are today. Super Mario Land and Kirby's Dream Land were just a couple of games we grew up playing and they changed our lives forever! Today we celebrate the 31st anniversary!
- What about you? What Game Boy title(s) did you grow up with, and which ones do you still treasure to this day?
Wow, has it been THAT long?! Holy moly I feel ancient.
What a time to be alive! I still have my Game Boy with Kirby's Dream Land!
