Synopsis

Subaru Mikazuki hates being around others and is a shy author who rescued a cat named Haru from a terrible life as a stray cat. The two unexpectedly start to live together as human and animal. The story is told from the perspectives of both Subaru, the human, and Haru, the cat and weaves together each of their thoughts and feelings. Gradually the two spend more and more time together and they become ‘family’; searching for their own happiness together.

Three Episode Impression

If you love cute animal anime like Bananya, Chi’s Sweet Home, or even Nyanpire, you are bound to love Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue. It’s an anime about the relationship between a human (Subaru) and a stray cat (Haru), but really, it’s a slice of life about Subaru figuring out his own life while fitting a stray cat into his life without really knowing the repercussions of cat ownership. It’s really been cute so far as we see the loner Subaru just going through life without really being aware of what he’s getting himself into by adopting a cat, which has so much responsibility involved. Both he and Haru thought they’d be able to live normal lives with some other being in the background, but they both actually end up teaching each other a lot about life similar to the way Udon no Kuni did. If you love slice of life anime like that with that refreshing iyashikei feel, check out Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue.

Subaru Mikazuki

Subaru is a young mystery author who enjoys his along time. He lost both of his parents in an accident when they were on vacation. He meets the stray cat Haru which stores creativity within him and he decides to live together with Haru.

Haru

Voice Actor: Haruka Yamazaki

Haru was a stray cat who has charming eyes. By accident he is picked up by Subaru and begins to live with him. Even though Subaru is human, Haru cannot leave him alone and likes to enjoy his role as pet cat.

Atsushi Kawase

Voice Actor: Hiro Shimono

Atsushi is Subaru’s editor who works at Koguma Publishing. He is able to deeply understand Subaru who’s shy of others. He loves all cats and dotes on Haru.

Hiroto Yasaka

Voice Actor: Shun Horie

Hiroto is Subaru’s childhood friend. He looks sketchy, but he’s actually sociable and looks after Subaru.

Nana Oukami

Voice Actor: Chika Anzai

Nana is an employee at the pet shop. She gives advice to Subaru right after he adopts Haru. She lives with her own two cast, Roku and Hachi.
