What You Need to Know:
- Best known as the artists behind Haikyuu!! Second Season's ED Climber and AnoHana's OP Aoi Shiori, Galileo Galilei announced yesterday on their official website that after their tour this spring, they will disband.
- Their solo tour will take place from March 1 to April 10, at which point they will cease their band activities.
- The statement came with a heartfelt letter from the members, Yuuki Ozaki (vocals, guitar, and songwriter), Kazuki Ozaki (drums) and Hitoshi Sako (Bass). Read the translation below.
We have decided that after the release of our fourth album Sea of Darkness on January 27, and our spring tour starting in March, we will be putting an end to Galileo Galilei.
Us three first started playing music as teenagers, in a small garage in Wakkanai, Hokkaido. We played as though we were playing a game with friends. That "game" became the band Galileo Galilei, and it drove us to where we are today.
Whilst bewildered by our sudden success, we continued to search for the music we should be playing, and our lives, which had once been aimless, began to change into something with meaning.
We grew up during those during those wonderful years, and somewhere along the way the music that we had started playing for fun became something irreplaceable, something we were willing to put our entire being into, to make it the best it could be.
Looking back, to us Galileo Galilei is kind of like the toy cars you used to love riding as a kid. But that toy car never got further than the garden lawn. We started to want to go further than that - to travel the rugged concrete path that seems to stretch on forever. And so now, as adults, we have decided to get out of this toy car which we love so much.
As you all know, we're not very good at expressing ourselves with words, and so we've poured all of our feelings into our last album, Sea and The Darkness. We hope that you, as our beloved fans, will be able to sense them in our songs.
We haven't yet decided what we are going to do from now, but we believe that we will be able to bring you good news in the future.
We look forward to seeing you at the concerts.
