Synopsis
This is the story of an 800 year old prayer.
The sound of the bell of Gionshoja echoes the impermanence of all things.
The hue of the flowers of the teak tree declares that those who flourish must be brought low.
At the tailend of peace stands the prosperous Taira clan, awash with wealth, influence, and power. Taira no Shigemori, a man who can see the souls of the dead, meets a lutist who can see the future. She proclaims: “Your family shall fall to ruin.”
The curtain unfolds upon the fifteen years where Japan’s nobility decays, and the feudal era rises.
Characters & Voice Actors
Biwa: Aoi Yuki
A lutist who can see the future with her right eye. Her father was killed by a samurai of the Heike Clan, but she is fortunate enough to live in the Shigemori residence.
Shigemori Tairano: Takahiro Sakurai
The eldest son of Kiyomori Tairano. He is widely respected as a person of good character, but he is often caught in between his father and other parties. He can see dead people with his left eye.
Tokuko Tairano: Saori Hayami
Shigemori’s younger sister. Her brothers love her for her cheerfulness and wit. She often chats with Biwa.
Kiyomori Tairano: Tesshou Genda
A great man who rose to the position of prime minister through his military prowess and wealth. Even after entering the priesthood, his ambition hasn’t waned.
Goshirakawa: Shigeru Chiba
A emperor-turned-monk who established the insei system (whereby emperors retire to live in monasteries but still retain some influence) under a system of cooperation with the Heike Clan. He thinks highly of Shigemori, but is wary of Kiyomori.
Tokiko Tairano: Kikuko Inoue
Kiyomori’s wife. Although she’s often dragged into her husband’s schemes, she keeps a firm hold on the reins.
Koremori Tairano: Miyu Irino
The eldest son of Shigemori. Although kind, he can also be cowardly. He is excellent at dancing.
