Known for his roles on various anime including Haikyu!! (Yuutarou "Scallion Head" Kindaichi), and more recently, One Punch Man (Saitama), Furukawa-san has made quite a name for himself. While he didn’t have much time to spend at Anime Expo, he certainly was impressed by the passion of American fans and how dedicated they are. He was certainly surprised by the huge presence anime has in America, now. The Honey’s Anime team was on the scene and managed to sit down and ask him a few questions about his career.
I hope you all enjoy the interview, as we will all know a little more about Makoto Furukawa!
Question #1
What do you enjoy about One Punch Man and Saitama the most?
I really love the action of the anime the most. In regards to the character Saitama, I really enjoy the depth of the character.
Question #2
Who do you do to prep for a role?
I personally don’t do any prep for a role. I want to bring out the best Saitama, but also add my own personal touch to it.
Question #3
How did you get into the industry?
I originally had no interest in becoming a voice actor, but I was unsure what kind of career to have. A friend showed me a pamphlet for a vocational school where a voice actress I liked was a guest teacher and so I decided to sign up because the challenge interested me.
Question #4
Where do you see yourself going from here?
When doing Saitama, I know I’m the best for that role and that I was made for the role. I want to find other roles that I also were made to do.
Question #5
What do you think of the American cast of One Punch Man and did you communicate with them?
I was extremely surprised by the American cast and how well the casting director cast the roles. We only gave the English Director a few notes, but he managed to find the perfect voices for each character!
Final Thoughts
Unfortunately, Furukawa-san could only visit AX briefly, but please listen to his talented acting in the popular series One Punch Man available on Hulu. Honey’s Anime would like to thank Furukawa-san for the wonderful opportunity to sit down and talk with us, even if it was for a very short time. The team really appreciates your dedication to the fans and we can’t wait to see what you have next for us!
