Step right up! Calling all Fudanshi and Fujoshi! We have a treat for you, and that is a Boy Love (BL) manga. You know what you are in for when you read this review. This is a story of Sasaki and Miyano, who form a bond of friendship with the power of Boy Love Manga. And who says introducing or talking about a Boy Love Manga won’t get you a boy friend? Without further ado, shall we get into the reviews!
1. Adorable and Wholesome
The way this manga setup is done to introduce new readers to the beauty of Boy Love. After accidentally taking a close look at Miyano’s feminine face, Sasaki has slowly fallen in love with Miyano. He takes an approach to get to know him through knowing his hobby, which is reading BL manga. Of course, Miyano was surprised by the sudden interest but decided to lend some of his manga while teaching him its culture and etiquette.
2. Short Chapters
If you got yourself a chance to read this volume and feel some of the timing feels off, that is because each chapter is relatively short. Slightly shorter than the average number of pages per chapter of a manga, but not too short. Each chapter executed concisely to present messages of their own; they focus on displaying the challenges Sasaki faces and Miyano’s ability to not see through Sasaki’s intentions.
3. Illustrations
Aside from the art style of the chapters’ main content, the full-page illustrations are excellent. Each illustration is done somewhat in a different approach and the effects to bring those moments to life. Unfortunately, not all illustrations are like that, but you will know when you see them. Also, has anyone realized Miyano looks like Hotaru Tachibana from Aoharu x Kikanjuu?
4. Respect
You have to give some points to Miyano for bringing Boy Love materials to an all-boys high school. He has manga and listens to their audiobook rated… You know where we are going with this, but we will leave that to your imaginations. Of course, Sasaki is new to all of this and doesn’t know when to keep these topics hidden from eyes and ears from others, so he usually asks Miyano about them out loud sometimes.
1. Not Distinct
We get where the mangaka is getting at in this volume when it comes to the story. However, the character designs made us feel they are not unique.
Final Thoughts
Sasaki to Miyano (Sasaki and Miyano) is a BL manga meant for new readers interested in getting into the genre itself. Note that this series is slightly tame… for now. We don’t know how far the main characters progress in their relationships. This series will be great for you in terms of story and setting if you don’t mind the lack of distinction in character designs. It is more about Sasaki trying to get his romantic feelings to Miyano by using his interests in BL materials as a medium genuinely. If you got a chance to read this series, who do you think is the top and bottom? Let us know in the comments below!
