Synopsis
The story takes place in an alternate history of Japan in the 64th year of the Meiji era (1931), where Yoshinobu Tokugawa continues to maintain absolute power. The nation has developed its own source of energy called the Dragon Vein, and has achieved unique advancements in society by mixing modern science with Edo era culture.
However, behind the scenes of this gorgeous city, the anti-establishment group Kuchinawa lurks about, with its smoldering flames of revolution and plans to overthrow the regime. The Tokugawa government’s shadowy organization known as Nue is charged with exterminating them. Sawa Yukimura, whose family was killed when she was a child, becomes the executioner of the organization and continues her search for the enemy, Snake Eyes.

Sawa Yukimura: Suzuko Mimori
A member of the blue-blooded clan who possesses unique powers. She has the best skills, mental fortitude and physical strength among the executioners. Sawa is the owner of Tsuyukusa Bookshop, which she uses as her cover while she secretly lives behind the scenes as an executioner of Nue. She is unfriendly and avoids getting involved with others. She is strict with herself, as well as with others.
Makoto Tsukishiro: Shota Aoi
A bandoneon performer with a gentle demeanor who is also an executioner behind the scenes just like Yukimura. Makoto is very knowledgeable, but uses smoke and mirrors to deceive people. He is willing to lie through his teeth to achieve his goals.
Elena Hanakaze: Raychell
An executioner of Nue. She is a novelist by day and a prostitute by night. She’s an emotional and self-serving woman who hates bothersome things. She’ll take men over women and money over human kindness. She lives according to her desires and knows exactly what she wants.
Asahi Nakamura: Aayasa Itou
An innocent girl who is the sole survivor of her family. She unintentionally starts living with Yukimura and performs all kinds of duties, from being the shopkeeper of the Tsuyukusa Bookshop to doing the housework. She adores Yukimura as if she were her big sister.
Jin Kuzuhara: Chikahiro Kobayashi
The man who manages Nue and its executioners. He also gives orders to them and is responsible for secretly disposing of executioners who have outlived their usefulness or who may be rebellious. He lives believing that his sole purpose in life is to protect Yoshinobu Tokugawa.
