Kamiarizuki no Kodomo (Child of Kamiari Month) Synopsis
In regions all throughout Japan, October is called Kannazuki, or “the month when there are no gods”, but in the Izumo area it is called Kamiarizuki, “the month when gods are present”. It is said that all the deities in Japan leave the areas where they reside and convene in Izumo, to discuss matters for the coming year concerning “en-musubi”, the joining of mortals in destined relationships.
A young girl by the name of Kanna loses her mother and her love of running. In the depths of despair, after touching a memento of her mother, the wheels of fate begin to turn. An emissary of a god in the form of a rabbit appears before her. It invites her to go on a journey to Izumo. Questioning the white rabbit, Kanna asks, “Can I really meet my mom?” The rabbit responds, “Only if the two of you are connected.” However, a young demon boy named Yasha blocks their path.
At their destination in the land of myths where every deity in Japan is welcomed and enshrined during Kannazuki, they will meet gods and goddesses of all shapes and sizes. Shimane and Izumo, names that refer to the origins of this island nation, are where this young girl must journey to, learning to believe in herself and run once more.
