What to Expect

Like before, Killing Floor 2: Cyber Revolt has players entering a new battle against hordes of zombie and zombie-like beasts. Players will explore a new futuristic factory called Spillway and will be given new weapons to arm themselves with against the Zed armada. You’ll need to learn how to escape the Zed through the large open areas of the map and squeeze by them in the cramped corridors within. Will you rely on the new Helios Rifle to blast the Zeds with fire or use the Killerwatt to bathe the baddies in electric currents? Regardless of your choice, Killing Floor 2: Cyber Revolt will test your zombie killing skills whether you’re alone or with your buddies online!

Gameplay

Killing Floor 2: Cyber Revolt doesn’t change anything with the formula, which is a great thing. Players will still be running around either alone or with up to six buddies/strangers as they fend off hordes of Zeds. Killing Floor 2: Cyber Revolt does add some new weapons and a new map though with some truly positive benefits. Let us discuss the map first—as it’s a beast of a map—then move on towards the weapons. There are also some cosmetics to unlock and you know we will definitely want to talk about those as well.

The new map—Spillway—might not look that diverse from yet another factory-like complex, but once you drop in…you’ll realize this map is amazing. Spillway is easily the strongest new piece of content from Killing Floor 2: Cyber Revolt as the map plays towards two strengths. For players that like tight corridors to create bottlenecks and choke points, Spillway has several within the interior of the complex. Those who enjoy open areas with room to run and move around though will find Spillway’s outdoor zones perfect leaving wide open platforms and various places to escape the Zeds when the heat is up. Tripwire Interactive made sure to also punish players who prefer one style over the other as each area can be easily overrun by Zeds if the player gets too cocky. The open areas mean you’ll have Zeds rushing from indoors and even jumping off platforms above to punish those who hide. Within the buildings, there are numerous doors and tunnels that, while you can’t enter, the Zeds can enter and they will love to hit you in droves. Spillway is very balanced and a ton of fun allowing for multiple playthroughs without any feeling of repetitiveness.

Weapon wise, Killing Floor 2: Cyber Revolt has quite a few new weapons that cater—as usual—to specific perks. Firebug and Survivalist each get a new gun in the form of the Helios Rifle and Killerwatt respectively. The Helios rifle is a beat of a plasma rifle that shouts burst shots and/or automatic. The shots can also go from one Zed right into another making it a nice chain weapon for multiple takedowns! The Killerwatt though steals the show as it is a behemoth of a rifle. Infused with electric shots, the Killerwatt can fire automatically or be charged for damaging effects! The guns both are pretty expensive but are worth it in the later rounds when enemies become tough or when a boss approaches. On an added note, the Battle Axe is also unlockable for all classes and that means you’ll be swinging your giant weapon around slicing Zed in half.

Lastly, Killing Floor 2: Cyber Revolt has a few cosmetic items that we really wanted to discuss! The Cyberpunk outfit is truly amazing with its glowing light design and hero-like appearance. Players can also unlock neon colors and a few other variant skins for weapons which will make them look super goofy but also give players their own style! There are also some headshot explosive effects and they can be added to just make the overall game feel more like an arcade experience. Prepare to save up some tokens, folks; you’ll need them to unlock all these goodies!

Honey's Gameplay Consensus:

Killing Floor 2: Cyber Revolt isn’t a huge update—no new boss and no new enemies—but it’s a nice update due to its new map. Spillway is a map we’ve played now several times and we are always finding new strategies to take down Zed and increase our lifespans while fighting on it. Equally, the new weapons are a nice addition to the already huge variety of weapons that can be found in Killing Floor 2. The cosmetic features, too, give players reason to keep replaying Killing Floor 2 for more limited time tickets! Overall, Killing Floor 2: Cyber Revolt is a solid update that we really felt should have been worth some actual cash but comes completely free of charge! Not paying a dime for a new map and several new weapons? If you have Killing Floor 2, then why aren’t you downloading the update right this very second!?

Honey's Pros:

  • Spillway is a great new map that has a ton of replay factor regardless of the gameplay mode
  • The new weapons (The Helios Rifle and Killerwatt) are so epic and truly add some pow to your incredibly powered arsenal
  • Once again, this update is free which means you’re getting some nice number of new goodies without paying a dime

Honey's Cons:

  • A new boss would have been nice

Honey's Final Verdict:

Killing Floor 2 has been around now for a few years, but we’re still finding it amazing that Tripwire Interactive isn’t done with their extravagant zombie shooter. Killing Floor 2: Cyber Revolt is the newest update yet and shows the developer doesn’t want to give players a cheap amount of new free content but wishes to reward their loyalty to this series.

We recommend booting up Killing Floor 2 right now and downloading this update as soon as you can to go back and kill some Zeds! Are you excited now to try out Killing Floor 2: Cyber Revolt?
