Synopsis
The story revolves around Nishimiya Shōko, a grade school student who has impaired hearing. She transfers into a new school, where she is bullied by her classmates, especially Ishida Shouya. It gets to the point where she transfers to another school and as a result, Shōya is ostracized and bullied himself, with no friends to speak of and no plans for the future. Years later, he sets himself on a path to redemption.

Characters
Shoya Ishida - The protagonist. He was a child bully who went overboard with Shoko, which resulted in him losing friends. He taught himself sign language to apologize to Shoko, and gradually changed himself for the better.
Shōko Nishimiya - The heroine of the series. She is a deaf girl who transferred to Shoya's elementary school, and ended up becoming a victim of Shoya's bullying. She left the school as a result, but reunited with Shoya again in senior high school
