On an island to the far east named Hinomoto, the people have built fortresses that they call “stations” and they have survived doing so. “Hayajiro” are special high speed, steam engine trains that travel between these stations transporting goods, people, and animals. This is the level that humanity has been reduced to.

Ikoma is a boy living in Aragane Station working as a steam engine blacksmith. He specifically works with Iron Manufacturing and Steam Engines. In order to defeat the kabane, he and his friend Takumi have made an original weapon that they call the “Tsuranuki Gun Blaster.” Everyone makes light of what he has created, but he is wishing and praying that the day he can prove them all wrong will soon arrive.

He gets his wish. One day, a train named Koutetsujou, one of Hayajiro, pulls into Aragane station. Ikoma begins dash through the cars to being to clean them for maintenance. He witnesses a mysterious girl who is exempt from being inspected for kabane. That night, Ikoma happens to run into the girl again, and she introduces herself as Mumei. As they are talking, a Hayajiro driving recklessly crashes into Aragane station! All of the crew members have disappeared… or rather, they have all turned into Kabane!

Aragane station is now overflowing with Kabane. Moving against the wave of people seized with panic, Ikoma runs. This time he will not run away. “I, I will defeat the kabane with this Tsuranuki Gun Blaster!”

In order to become a great man, he begins to fight against the Kabane.

Ikoma

Mumei

Voice Actor: Sayaka Senbongi

Mumei is a mysterious, young girl who somehow arrived on a Koutetsujou. It seems as if she has received special treatment from a warrior, however her true personality remains hidden.

Ayame

Voice Actor: Maaya Uchida

Ayame is the eldest daughter of the Yomogawa household and her father governs over all of Aragane station. As the eldest daughter she is number one in position to succeed her father. At least she is supposed to be. However, she is still young and so instead of stating her exact stance on matters, she tends to get caught up in the flow of things.

Kurusu

Voice Actor: Toshiki Masuda

Kurusu is the young warrior for the Yomogawa household. He is the personal bodyguard for lady Ayame. Even as a warrior, his blade skills are quite an amazing feat. He is extremely strict and honest, and his honor is everything to him.

Takumi

Voice Actor: Yuuki Kaji

Takumi is friends with Ikoma and lives with him inside of Aragane station. Takumi also works as a steam engine blacksmith. Takumi always puts on a shocked expression when dealing with Ikoma’s recklessness. However, he has embraced and looks up to Ikoma and his tendency to be afraid of nothing while not getting mad at anyone.

Kajika

Voice Actor: Kanae Oki

Kajika is a young female steam engine mechanic living in Aragane station. She works with Ikoma and Takumi and she is more familial with them.

Yukina

Voice Actor: Mariya Ise

Yukina is an attendant on Koutetsujou who goes around the Hinomoto lands transporting goods at high speeds. She is not one to talk much however, Yukina is diligent so she works passionately while looking after others.

Sukari

Voice Actor: Ryouta Oosaka

Sukari is another young boy who works as a steam engine mechanic in Aragane Station. He tends to be very sarcastic with others, but he can also be cool and composed while having sound judgement.

Kibito

Voice Actor: Kensuke Satou

Kibito is another warrior serving the Yomogawa household. As a warrior, he understands much and regardless of his social position, he is able to reach those of any position or class.

Biba

Voice Actor: Mamoru Miyano

Biba is the leader of the Rangers who travel outside of the station by bringing the fight to the Kabane rather than waiting for them. Mumei showers him with affetion by calling him 'Oniisama.' He is the oldest son of the Shogun, but he has since been disowned.
