Legos are fun, that much we can all say even as adults. Yet, sometimes we just don’t have the time—or the money—to invest in huge Lego sets to build and play with. Gameplay
As kids, many of us here at Honey’s Anime played with Legos in some form or another. Though as we got older, Legos became more defined allowing gamers to play with Legos all while using their controllers. One of our favorite Lego games came out in 2013 in the form of Lego Marvel Super Heroes and to say we loved that isn’t doing it justice. Now 4 years later, Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 releases and we finally got our hands on our copy! See what we thought of this awesome game in our review of Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 for the PS4.
Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 is a pretty simple game to explain to players. The main goal in Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 is to control Lego Marvel characters and save the world from various villains and their evil plans. Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 has you do this by building various contraptions using—obviously—Legos and the powers of the heroes. It’s a simple game that literally all ages can play and that is the appeal in playing Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2. However, here’s the million-dollar question: Is Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 fun to play for all ages? The short answer is a resounding yes, but let us explore why it’s a yes.
Just like the previous Lego Marvel Super Heroes game, the sequel has you in a new story that will have you running into heroes from the Avengers movies/comics and even the Guardians of the Galaxy. Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 includes hundreds of characters that even we here at Honey’s Anime couldn’t name as they come from some of the lesser known comic book stories. Equally, you’ll be traveling across various Marvel movie locations and fighting with your little Lego heroes fighting and solving puzzles with the power of Legos. It’s not a very complex game—save the several times we had problems figuring out where to go exactly—and that is the main appeal of Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2. Play alone or grab a family member/friend for a great co-op experience. You can even now play with up to 4 people in a special battle mode though we still think co-op is a bit more fun overall. Building, collecting, and fighting are the three main components to Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 and they all work wonderfully.
Graphically, Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 is a world apart from the first entry back in 2013. Environments, cutscenes and even the character’s Lego art look leaps and bounds more impressive. Some of the environments—such as the NYC levels and Underwater areas—shocked us completely! The music for Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 also is pretty solid with the opening loading screen song coming from the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie which was a song from Redbone’s “Come and Get Your Love” which released in the early 1970s. If we had any issues with the sound of Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2, it would be the voice acting. We won’t say the vocal work for Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 is downright terrible but there are some pretty meh moments to say the least. However, we do know this is a game made for kids and thus they probably won’t be too upset at hearing their favorite heroes and villains sounding corny.
Honey's Gameplay Consensus:
Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 is a significant upgrade in terms of content, story and presentation than the previous title. There are now even more characters to play as and the story feels like an explosion of things only a kid could imagine, which makes Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 feel more epic than any other Lego title in general. Honestly, our few minor issues with Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 aren’t enough to deter us from making the statement we’re about to make. Do you have kids who love Legos or are you someone who loves them and equally love video games? If you answered yes to any of those questions we just asked, then you are no doubt going to love Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2. We give it a solid recommendation to pick up Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 if you somehow missed this amazing—and cute—title.
