Acting as the third—and last—entry in the NEKO-NIN exHeart series, NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 wraps up our tale in this explosive finale! Once more take control of a young man who has found several demi-human girls at his beck and call to serve him and his ninja lineage. New girls have entered the already cramped household and new enemies are appearing on cue! What will our hero do to keep his fun lifestyle from being ruined by a possible ninja war? It has been a few months since NEKO-NIN exHeart 2 and our hero’s entourage of ninja girls has grown. Now with these new girls, our ordinary house has become quite more intriguing as of late. Unfortunately, due to his ninja lineage, new ninja girls aren’t the only trouble our hero will have to face. A new enemy has appeared saying her name is Saiga Himari successor to the famed Magoichi line! Our tale is beginning to come to a close but the final act will be far from simple. Ninja girls are about to collide in an all-out war in NEKO-NIN exHeart 3!

There’s always a strange feeling when buying a third title in a series rather than start from the beginning. In many ways you don’t know what to expect and that can be quite scary. Here at Honey’s Anime we were in that boat and gained a copy of NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 with no previous knowledge of the past two entries! Luckily, with some help from the internet and NEKO-NIN exHeart 3’s in-game recap, we felt ready to journey alongside these demi-human ninja girls and see what awaited our lucky hero in this concluding episode. Don’t fret readers! Even if you too, are new to NEKO-NIN exHeart 3, we will guide you along so you can know what to expect in this mixed genre VN!

At its core, NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 is a pretty vanilla VN. As the case with most VNs you’re reading while watching/listening to a narrative that occasionally gives you choices to make for dialogue purposes. That means you shouldn’t expect much from NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 if you wanted a deep VN with tons of endings and millions of paths to engage in. However, what NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 lacks in routes, it makes up for in a truly fun story and that is where we plan on focusing our review on. From the minute you hit play, you’re going to enter a comedic tale with ninja action, ninja drama and a bevy of beautiful girls who all happen to be animal-themed!

NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 might seem like a weird entry to start in—seeing as this is the third and last NEKO-NIN exHeart game—but developer Whirlpool seemed to anticipate this possibility. From the main menu, players can enter a recap scenario that shows what transpired in the past two NEKO-NIN exHeart titles and how it leads up to this concluding third entry. That single addition to NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 makes it truly inviting to fans/newcomers alike and we loved the detail—and comedy—thrown into this small recap. We had already looked up a lot of the past games but the recap alone was just enough to make sure we fully understood this strange world filled with demi-human ninjas and why they were so important.

After the much needed recap, we entered the main story and wow…we were blown away with what we got. Not even two seconds in, slash effects filled the screen and several beautiful demi-human ninja appeared on screen fighting with one another to prove who the best was! Then a few moments later we got some comedic situations with cute ninja girls sleeping and acting like cats. This all transpired in the first few minutes of NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 and we knew the overall experience henceforth was going to be truly fun/action packed. NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 might seem like a vanilla VN on the surface but this story is anything but and we were truly surprised that Sekai Project once again found a developer capable of making a truly great VN series!

Aside from the great story—that made us laugh and get nosebleeds in equal measure—the visuals for NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 are top notch! The CG images/sprites are beautiful crafted and there are dozens of chibi-like CGs for that much needed cuteness factor. We’ve come to expect Sekai Project to publish only the best looking VNs but NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 was truly more than we could have hoped for. We’ll be having arguments for weeks trying to figure who has the best oppai and who is the best cat girl in NEKO-NIN exHeart 3! Now NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 might seem perfect—because its nearly perfect if we’re being sincere—but there is one issue VN fans might have with it. While the story is truly interesting and filled with some surprises the overall theme can be a bit trope heavy. Numerous clichés fill NEKO-NIN exHeart 3’s several hour experience such as our main hero being sandwiched between a girl’s chest and the harem situation of having ninja girls wishing to cater to their master’s desires. Does this weaken NEKO-NIN exHeart 3? No, truly it doesn’t. Even so, don’t expect a truly unique tale as NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 seems to aim for that classic anime harem experience.

Whether you’re a newcomer to this ninja cat girl parade or not we’ve got some good news for you. While NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 doesn’t try too hard to go against the common anime/manga/visual novel tropes set from dozens of other titles, the execution style works to deliver a truly solid VN for fans and newcomers alike! We loved the stylish CG images and even how they moved slightly for action scenes or romantic ones. While you might fear entering NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 if you’re new to this trilogy we’re happy to report there’s a nice recap system in-game that offers a simplified version of the previous games with some truly comedic gestures thrown in for good measure. Developer Sekai Project truly knows how to find great VN developers as developer Whirlpool did a fantastic job with NEKO-NIN exHeart 3! We recommend this comedic and action themed VN to fans of the series and newcomers who need some beautiful animal-girl ninja in their life.

It can be tough for a VN developer to use a cliché theme such as ninja girls who also happen to be cute cat-girls and various other animal-like beings. Whirlpool surprised us immensely with NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 which was filled with tropes found in most anime that involve this subject matter but equally was a unique tale of friendship, love and ninja action. NEKO-NIN exHeart 3 gets a big thumbs up from us here at Honey’s Anime and we recommend it to anyone who loves VNs and is seeking one with cute girls to ogle or just an interesting tale of ninja fighting for various reasons.
