Gameplay
Overcooked! 2 comes back to us with all new puzzles, kitchens, and challenges. This time, Overcooked! 2 is available on all of the main consoles making it easier to find someone to play with than before. You’ll need them, too, as you tackle on new recipes and cooking challenges from magical kitchens to figuring out how to make siu mai. It’s a whole slew of new challenges, but that just means all new fun.
As fans of the original game, we were ecstatic to hear that a sequel of Overcooked was coming out, so when a copy of the game landed on our laps prior to the release, you can bet we were excited. We didn’t even hesitate to download it ASAP and start up our Nintendo Switch to see what new gameplay Overcooked! 2 had to offer.
As far as gameplay goes, it’s very much the same as the original game with all of the gameplay being in the kitchen. Of course, there’s going to be new challenges as we tried to figure out how to deal with hot air balloon kitchens, magical portals, and more. Kitchens are in neverending chaos, and just when you think you have it all figured out, Overcooked! 2 throws you yet another curveball. Some of the challenges come with evolving kitchens as they go from one disaster to the next, like being on two or three ever moving rafts that suddenly crash and you find yourself trying to figure out how to adapt while getting your orders in. Without setting the kitchen completely on fire, of course. This is exciting and continues to keep us on our toes regardless if we were playing in single player mode or as a party.
One of the fun aspects of Overcooked! 2 is the inclusion of new foods. New recipes mean the game stays challenging, and boy, was it extremely challenging. It took us forever to properly figure out how to make siu mai! Some of the recipes really made the game difficult to play solo like the siu mai or the more complicated sushi kitchens. It was a mess to say the least. Even with 2 players, some of them are scary hard. We found ourselves scrambling for more players in order to make it through each level, but it’s hard when schedules don’t exactly align. Gosh, this is totally meant to be a party game and if you don’t have a party, you’re going to have a hard time.
Honey's Gameplay Consensus:
Despite all of the new stuff, for the most part, Overcooked! 2 is pretty much the same game as the first one. It’s an enjoyable chaotic party game that gets everyone involved. You may not have been close to anyone else before this game, but after this, you’re going to find your teamwork is 100% better. It’s all fun and games until the kitchen burns down.
Honey's Pros:
Same fun gameplay
New recipes
5 (6 if on the Switch) new chefs that you can unlock
Everchanging kitchen arenas
Story mode, arcade mode, versus mode are all available for different game play
Honey's Cons:
Hard to play on your own
Honey's Final Verdict:
If you are a fan of party games, simulators, or just mass chaos, Overcooked! 2 has you covered. It brings back all the fun of the first with a few new features that is sure to excite everyone. We highly recommend it to any fan of the original. Of course, we are more than excited to continue playing it and cannot wait for more players to get the game so that we can get a few people to play with! Thanks for joining us for another game review, everyone. We look forward to hearing from you in the comments below!
