Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den chapter 19 wasted no time in showing what many of us knew already, Hachimaru needs some serious training. Digressing a bit, we first see what is most likely a participant in the tournament—though he mentions it as a battle royale—choosing what looks like a room filled with hilts. We then return to our ship where are thief duo are being monitored by our samurai but more so just to ensure they can be trusted even a little. After Daruma mentions again that the ship is basically his hilt and can quickly end them if need be, they are let go from their constraints and allowed a bit of comfort. It doesn't take long for our one thief to make note how they can easily best Hachimaru in a fight egging our new samurai to engage with one of the thieves, Ryu. Using a point based system—landing a blow anywhere on the body counts as a point—Ryu and Hachimaru begin their match…and quickly Ryu scores a point as Hachimaru stands there trying to analyze his motions. Thirty points later and Hachimaru is still unable to hit Ryu despite his best efforts and the constant annoyance from Kotsuga claiming Ann should get a new samurai. Finally a breakthrough occurs and despite clearly being hit, Hachimaru uses his wits to throw out his blade with his one arm to land a blow on Ryu netting him a point but also a decapitation. Ultimately, this proves that while Hachimaru isn't the best fighter yet, he isn't to be taken lightly. Can Hachimaru improve himself before the tournament? Most likely he will be ready—this is a shounen after all—still how he can do it will be interesting. While we wait several days for chapter 20, let's talk about why you don't want to skip out on Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den chapter 19!
1. Training Bout!
Kotsuga might be good at being kind of a jerk, but he was right about the difference between Ryu and Hachimaru. Despite his struggle victory over Ata's projection, Hachimaru needs training still to be a more competent samurai. That's why seeing Hachimaru face off against Ryu was a good learning experience for our young keyholder.
2. Giving Up? Not Hachimaru!
One element we love about Shounen Jump series is the theme of never giving up. Despite Hachimaru getting hit left and right during his training fight with Ryu he didn't back down and sure as heck didn't give up! Using his creative style, Hachimaru might have lost his head but he finally scored a point on Ryu! Goes to show you if one method fails, try something else till you succeed!
Final Thoughts
Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den chapter 19 proves that despite Hachimaru wishing he was able to win over any foe before him, he still has to undergo more training to really become a true samurai warrior! There's still some time before the tournament which should give our trainee samurai a good breathing room for training. Will he be able to overcome the other powerful keyholder or will the thief duo win? Comment below with your bets!
