Discussion Time
In the 28th chapter of Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den Daruma is finally in his human form and his young protégée watches with awe at his true master’s form. Daruma tells our young Hachimaru—who recognizes him from his favorite video game—that despite being in a more powerful body, his form still lacks the ability to go full power. Losing his princess and having a strange scar on his hand leaves Daruma with the ability to harness only a fraction of his power. Despite this, Daruma is still all too willing to beat down Ben and show him who has true power! Daruma wastes no time unleashing a bevy of special attacks and abilities leaving Ben reeling with each blow. As Hachimaru watches Daruma makes a powerful claim to his trainee. Daruma claims eventually Hachimaru will be even more powerful than he ever was and with that claim hits Ben with a truly wicked special move! As Ben is now unable to fix his form and is left in shambles he speaks of a truly cruel revelation. Unknown to Kotsuga, Ben apparently took him in after taking everything away from him! What did Ben actually remove from Kotsuga’s life? Next chapter will no doubt reveal that to us but we can honestly say this was an extremely intense and action packed chapter of Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den! Here’s why you must read chapter 28 as soon as you can!
1. Master Indeed
Daruma has always been a powerful cat-master but in his human form the game has truly changed! Now with his true form unlocked—temporarily at least—Daruma can utilize special moves his cat form was unable to produce! Hachimaru has finally understood that Daruma is indeed deserving of being his master!
2. Ben and Kotsuga
Earlier in Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den we learned that Kotsuga was taken in by Ben and this is why he betrayed his newfound friends. However, the big shock of chapter 28 is that Ben destroyed Kotsuga’s life before taking the boy in! What did Ben do to our young bandit who once dreamed of being a samurai himself? Let’s pray chapter 29 will tell us more of Kotsuga’s past!
Final Thoughts
Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den 28 shows us that Kishimoto truly has a penance for creating deep backstories for his created characters. Kotsuga seemed like just another doomed child taken in by the wrong guardian but now we know he was manipulated in following Ben! What’s worse is Ben took Kotsuga’s life away before making him into a pawn! We can’t wait to see that past in a bit more detail and we know you readers are shaking your heads in agreement.
