What You Need to Know:
- It has been announced that the ending theme for Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom, which will be released in theaters in Japan on January 26, 2024, will be See-Saw’s “Sarigiwa no Romantics.” See-Saw is a unit consisting of Chiaki Ishikawa on vocals and Yuki Kajiura on the keyboard.
- See-Saw was responsible for two previous theme songs in the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED series: “Anna ni Issho Datta no ni” from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED (2002) and “Kimi wa Boku ni Niteiru” from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY (2004). This marks their third project in the series, with approximately 19 years having passed since their last involvement.
- Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom is set in the C.E. (Cosmic Era) and continues the narrative from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY, depicting the ongoing conflict between original “Natural” humans and the genetically modified “Coordinators.” This latest installment features a completely new story that takes place in C.E. 75 following the events of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY.
- Furthermore, it has been confirmed that “Sarigiwa no Romantics” will be released as a single on January 24, 2024. This single will also include a recording of the surprise performance of “Anna ni Issho Datta no ni” at InuFes 2019, the 10th-anniversary celebration of FlyingDog.
- In commemoration of this, the live video of “Anna ni Issho Datta no ni” performed at InuFes will be available for a limited time starting today.
- Along with this announcement, we received comments from Chiaki Ishikawa, Yuki Kajiura, and Director Mitsuo Fukuda.
Comment from Chiaki Ishikawa:
I am surprised and grateful to have this unexpected reunion with SEED. Back then, I received valuable advice from the scriptwriter, Chiaki Morosawa, and gained many insights into creating music. For this theatrical version, I wove these experiences into the lyrics. I also had the opportunity to talk to Director Fukuda, who expanded our discussions from the individual characters’ emotions to broader topics about war, ultimately leading to a clear destination. Somehow, along the way, it feels like we’ve created something truly SEED-like. I would be delighted if it brings you joy.
Comment from Yuki Kajiura:
I am truly honored to have once again collaborated with Chiaki Ishikawa to create an ending theme for Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM. I am delighted that See-Saw was deemed necessary for this new story, which fans have been eagerly awaiting for 20 years. It was an honor to write a song for the final scene. We hope that it will fulfill the wishes of the fans.
Comment from Director Mitsuo Fukuda, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Series Director:
Firstly, thank you for the wonderful song. When I first heard it, I felt a strange sensation. The enchanting music by Ms. Kajiura and the story thematic lyrics by Ms. Ishikawa created an enchanting world, and it felt as if the world of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED from 20 years ago was seamlessly connected to the present. The emotionally stirring melody, the world-crafting arrangement, and the lyrics connecting the emotions of the characters to the listeners all soaked into my heart. I believe it perfectly captures the grandeur of the ending theme for the movie Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM.
The ending themes of the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED series are symbolic. “Anna ni Issho Datta no ni” was a magical song that synchronized with the theme of each episode and brought the emotion to a climax. The same can be said for “Kimi wa Boku ni Niteiru.” It’s not the anime world but the everyday words that link with the themes of each episode and touch the heart.
I am confident that “Sarigiwa no Romantics” will be another beautiful song that enriches the ending of this movie.
