What You Need to Know:
- Nikkei Asia reported today that Sony has now entered the final part of their negotiations to buy Crunchyroll from AT&T giving them the largest anime streaming library in the West.
- Sony aquired Funimation in 2017, gaining 1 million subscribers, while Crunchyroll has 3 million paying subscribers and a whopping 70 million free subscriber in over 200 countries.
- Sony would now be able to offer 1000+ Crunchyroll anime titles on its other services.
- When negotiations began, AT&T was asking for over $1 billion dollars for Crunchyroll but the amount is more around $100 billion yen, which translates to around $950 million dollars.
