10. Oz Vessalius from Pandora Hearts
- Episodes: 25
- Aired: April 2009 – September 2009
Let's get this ranking started with Oz Vessalius, a character who sticks to our idea of a blonde type entirely! In fact, he is sparkling, and upbeat. He is the heir of the Vessalius Duke House and, in spite the fact that his mother has been killed when he was little, and the fact that his life turned into a mess the day he became 15-year-old, he is a cheerful, optimistic and energetic character! On the day he turned 15, he was dragged into Abyss – as the name says, an unknown place where strange creatures called Chains live – only to be brought back to the real world... Ten years after! In that time, his best friend, Gilbert Nightray, has become a proud adult, and his once little sister, is now same age as him. The shocking truth strikes him, but only for a few seconds.
He has a dark side to him, as his relationship with his father is very tense. Since his childhood, he had the feeling to be an unwanted child, as his father kept on treating him less than a bug. Maybe because of the bad things he had to suffer during his past, he turned out to be a person willing to protect the ones he loves the most. He demonstrates to be humble, in spite being a noble, when Gilbert was told that Oz would be his master, and Oz answered that he would have gladly protected his serve, because that is the duty of a master.
After he comes back from Abyss, he has lost his privilege, his home, ten years with his loved ones, and has no clue about what to do. However, those are not reasons for him to feel down! He will find the upright of what happened to him. 9. Usui Takumi from Maid-Sama! (Kaichou wa Maid-Sama!)
- Episodes: 26
- Aired: April 2010 – September 2010
Let's go on with Usui Takumi, a hot blondie with an obstinacy out of the ordinary! He is like a Prince Charming, and yet he becomes a tease sometimes. When he meets Misaki, the student council president, he falls in love with her. From that moment onward, he starts a fight to try to win her over! Misaki is stubborn, though, and is a strong girl willing to do everything by herself, so Usui has a hard time! Despite the premises, though, this blondie will be willing not to give up, and will start teasing Misaki just to enjoy her overreactions, and on the other side, he will be there for her whenever she's in trouble!
He sticks to the idea we have about a blonde type with prince-like appearances. About the prince-like manners, though... Well, he tries hard! With a poker face hiding his true intentions, he will gradually act in a way that will show how much he loves Misaki, and he won't see Misaki's stubbornness as an obstacle, but rather a cute trait of her. His obstinacy will, eventually, guarantee him to be in Misaki's favor!
8. Kei “Tsukki” Tsukishima from Haikyuu!!
- Episodes: 25
- Aired: April 2014 – September 2014
Our 8th position is a blunt, blonde-haired guy who plays volleyball! Kei “Tsukki” Tsukishima, is a first year of the Karasuko high school volley club. He is tall, with glasses and he is blonde. His nice appearance, though, doesn't seem to match very well with his character.
Tsukki has the innate ability to rile people up, without much effort. He snorts at others failure, jokes about Hinata's height, and doesn't like to exert himself too much. He shows respect to Daichi, Sugawara and Asahi, but when it comes to the other teammates, he just can't stand them. Tsukki manages to be rude with Yamaguchi, as well, who is his closest friends.
So why do we like Tsukki, so much so that we put him in our ranking? It's easy! There's a reason behind his way of acting. He is not spiteful because he was born like that. A delusion he received by his admired and beloved older brother, who put him in the ridiculous with his classmates, changed him completely and made him close up. We are confident that he will show a better side of him, though, and that's why he is our 8th position!
7. Mikaela Hyakuya from Seraph of The End: Vampire Reign (Owari no Seraph)
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: April 2015 – June 2015
Here we are with our 7th position with a character who is totally opposed to the sparkling personality associated to blondies. Mikaela Hyakuya, though, has all the reasons to be gloomy and pessimistic. He is an orphan, and the family he managed to build during the years in the orphanage, has been killed by the vampires. To make things worse, his only remaining family member, Yuu Hyakuya, has managed to escape from the vampires' grasp and thinks Mikaela is dead.
Although now he is gloomy and pessimistic, due to all the bad things that happened to him – he was turned into a vampire to escape death – scratching the surface we can find out how he was like before. Initially, he was upbeat and smiling, kind and caring towards his brothers and sisters. Those traits are still there, and will be brought back, even if not completely, when he will find his precious Yuu and will reunite with him.
6. Apollon Agana Belea from Kamigami no Asobi – Ludere Deorum –
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: April 2014 – June 2014
We have even a God in our ranking! Apollon Agana Belea, as he is the Greek God of the Sun, is a blonde-haired boy with all the peculiar characteristics that should be found in a blondie. In fact, he is cheerful, enthusiastic, upbeat and kind. He is exactly like a god should be.
His personality, though, is a mirror of something he feels like missing inside of his heart. He acts all bright and sparkling, but it is the flip side of a person who is actually very lonely. His relationship with Zeus, his father, isn't exactly easy to manage, and what's more, as a God, he needs to follow the rules. That's why, to put up with his loneliness, he tries to make friends. In fact, he is the only one, among the gods attending the high school, who is willing from the very start to make friends with the others, who act cold and distant instead.
Isn't he the God of the Sun? His stubbornness and obstinacy will be rewarded! With Yui's help, he will manage to create bonds with everyone, and they all together will learn what love and friendship are, and will be able to graduate!
5. Kise Ryouta from Kuroko's Basketball (Kuroko no Basket)
- Episodes: 25
- Aired: April 2012 – September 2012
Let's talk about the ex-rookie of the “Generation of Miracles”, Kise Ryouta! Besides being a basketball player, Kise works as a model as well. No wonder if he is always surrounded by girls flattering him. He is a beauty, with his muscular body and his delicate trait, and he is probably the most stereotypical blonde type in this ranking.
He doesn't like studying, and is usually called an idiot by the ex-members of the “Generation of Miracles”, only because he is warmhearted and kind, and likes to add a “-cchi” to the names of the people he respects the most. Among all the characters in Kuroko's Basketball, he is probably the only one honest with his feelings, in fact he doesn't have any problem to show his tears, or his rage. At the same time, he has no problem to say that he considers the ex-members of the “Generation of Miracles” his friends, and his rivals. His soft character is shown especially when he talks about, or with Kuroko, as he seems to have a little obsession towards him and in spite Kuroko repeating that they didn't get along very well.
4. Yogi from Karneval
- Episodes: 13
- Aired: April 2013 – June 2013
Here we are with our 4th position! Yogi, from Karneval, is a 21-year-old boy who acts like a child. Well, his personality is his cutest trait, but his appearance is one of a prince!
He is a fighter of the Circus Second Ship, and Hirato's underling. What is stunning about Yogi is the way his character matches perfectly with his appearance. He is cheerful, bright, and a positive thinker. Yogi is always ready to play, to tell fun stories, and to hang out with his friends. He is prone to help his comrades, and can turn out to be very emotional sometimes.
He shows affection towards Gareki – who is very “tsundere”, and acts as if he hates Yogi – and towards Nai – who gladly accepts Yogi's cuddles. However, he is soft with basically everyone. His side job is to wear Nyanperona's costume, and entertain the children. He proves to be very good at dealing with children, as his childish side shows up. What's funny is to see how sometimes children tease him and start bad jokes, but Yogi never gets angry. Long story short, he is just one cute blondie who deserved to be mentioned!
3. Yumoto Hakone from Cute High Defense Club LOVE! (Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu LOVE!)
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: January 2015 – March 2015
We gave our 3rd position to a funny character who is like a time bomb! Yumoto Hakone, a first year student at Binan High School, is a fluffy blonde-haired boy and a funny troublemaker. His appearance and personality, though, allow him to be easily forgiven by everyone!
He is a happy-go-lucky and cheerful character, with almost a total incapacity of listening to what others have to say. In fact, if he has something on his mind, no one can make him change idea. He seems to lack common sense sometimes, and has a passion for everything that's cute.
When a pink wombat appears in front of him and the other members of the “Earth Defense Club”, and tells them to transform into fighting princes and fight in the name of love, he is the only one who looks unfazed. If it can give you all an idea of what an airhead he can be! Anyway, we find this blonde ticking bomb just too funny, so we had to put him in this ranking!
2. Nagisa Hazuki from Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: July 2013 – September 2013
Let's move on our 2nd position, with a character who is very similar to Yumoto Hakone we just mentioned. Nagisa Hazuki shares with Yumoto Hakone a similar appearance and a similar personality as well. Nagisa is a first year student of the Iwatobi High School, and a member of the swimming club.
His personality is cheerful, energetic, and optimistic. We can easily admit that he was like the glue keeping together the members of the Iwatobi Swim Club. In fact, it was thanks to him if the club could be started once again. What's more, Nagisa is always prone in setting reunions, dinners, and excursions with the other members. He is like a little volcano, and his actions are way faster than his words. Aside his impulsiveness with actions, he is straightforward, and never once he was scared of saying what he was thinking. Thanks to his peculiar traits, he can be easily loved by the viewers!
1. Natsuki Hashiba from Rainbow Days (Nijiiro Days)
- Episodes: 24
- Aired: January 2016 – ongoing
And the first position goes to an awkward blondie, who tries hard to overcome his shyness! Natsuki Hashiba, is the main protagonist of Rainbow Days and a total non-conventional blondie. His nickname is Nacchan, and he is a hopeless romantic boy, who still believes in the true love. When it comes to it, he is very sensitive and shy. This peculiar trait is the reason why his three best friends – Matssun, Tsuyopon and Kei-chan – always tease him. He is a crybaby, and always asks for help to his friends who seem to be way more experienced than him with matters concerning love.
When he falls in love at first sight with Anna, and later on he discovers that she attends his high school, his friends start to help him in every possible way to make the two of them get closer. Their helping, though, will start a series of hilarious situations that don't seem to work very well with their goal.
Aside from his delusional trait, though, when it's not about love, he keeps all the characteristics that a blondie should have. He is energetic, friendly, and cheerful. He is probably the one who cherishes the other three boys the most. We still don't know how his story will end, as the show is still ongoing, but he totally deserved our 1st position!
With Natsuki, our ranking comes to an end. What do you think about these blonde-haired characters? They all share a cheerful trait, even though they differ in other characteristics. The anime world is full of blondies with an attitude, but we thought to choose the ones who seemed to fit better the conventional idea of “blondie”, and the ones who gained great popularity among the viewers. If you know other blondies who should have been in here, let us know in the comments below!
