Earth has been invaded by an alien race known as The Amanto and they have taken over feudal Japan, establishing a prohibition on swords which leaves the Samurai of Japan treated with disregard. Despite the prohibition, Sakata Gintoki is a man who still understands the way of the warrior. Working as a Yorozuya, he is accompanied by the jack-of-all-trades Shimura Shinpachi, umbrella-wielding Kagura, and their oversized pet dog Sadaharu and they have numerous adventures while on the various odd jobs that Gintoki’s profession entails.
