Anime characters often are quick to hit one another. If you noticed, regardless of the series or genre, various characters will rely on physical violence to get their points across. While in the real world, getting slapped in the face—or slapping someone else in the face—would get you in some trouble, in the world of anime, this isn’t the case. Anime characters can slap each other silly while we the viewers watch with smiles on our face. Sounds kind of sadistic in hindsight, but all we know is characters getting slapped is both surprising and quite entertaining. With that being said, we wondered what anime characters get slapped the most and decided to attempt at rating them in order. Here is our Top 10 Characters Who Have Received the Most Slaps in the Face list!
10. Frieza from Dragon Ball Z
- Episodes: 291
- Aired: April, 1989 - January, 1996
One of the most legendary arcs of Dragon Ball Z is the Frieza Saga. Goku and the fellow Z warriors go up against the alien known as Frieza and must somehow save the planet Namek from his destructive power. Near the end of the arc, Goku powers up to his legendary Super Saiyan form and beats Frieza down. Though it’s also here where Goku slaps Frieza repeatedly in the face with both his front and back hand. We lost count after ten times, but it allows Frieza to make our list despite this being one of the few times the evil alien is slapped by anyone.
9. Shinji Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion
- Episodes: 26
- Aired: October, 1995 - March, 1996
The infamous Shinji Ikari is known for crying and refusing his destiny as an EVA pilot. Yet, did you know Shinji should also be given another title? Shinji should win the award of being slapped by so many females in one show that isn’t a harem. Shinji is legit slapped by almost every girl in Neon Genesis Evangelion and, while we feel somewhat—keyword somewhat—bad, it doesn’t stop us from laughing when it happens.
8. Ryuuji Takasu from Toradora!
- Episodes: 25
- Aired: October, 2008 - March, 2009
Falling in love with any girl is quite a momentous task. However, falling in love with a tsundere like Taiga Aisaka is even harder and this is realized by Ryuuji Takasu quite quickly in Toradora! Poor Ryuuji finds himself often on the tsun side of Taiga and it leads to his face being hit…hard. Taiga might be a palmtop tiger but she is quite strong. Just look at Ryuuji’s face for proof.
7. Koutarou Tatsumi from Zombieland Saga
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: October, 2018 - December, 2018
Producer Koutarou Tatsumi has it all, the looks, the style and the ability to resurrect the dead for his own pop idol group. Koutarou still lacks one element that leads to his slap fest in the comedy music series Zombieland Saga: knowing when to just stay quiet. With his usual charm amped up to 11 and his voice always ready to scream or say something ridiculous, Koutarou is slapped…and usually quite hard during the course of Zombieland Saga. Readers, learn from Koutaro’s mistakes. Sometimes staying quiet isn’t bad thing and might help you avoid a slap.
6. Taro Sado from MM!
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: October, 2010 - December, 2010
Most people prefer not to be slapped in the face as it’s not a really enjoyable feeling. That doesn’t apply to masochist protagonist Taro Sado from MM! though. Taro loves the feeling of pain and often is giddy when he is beat to the ground by feet or weapons—usually coming from main girl Mio Isurugi—and doesn’t show a single ounce of pain. We won’t question Taro and his love for all things pain orientated but we will say that Taro makes our Top 10 Characters Who Have Received the Most Slaps in the Face list as his slap counter is quite high. If our list was about beatdowns though, Taro would be quite higher up.
5. Naruto Uzumaki from Naruto
- Episodes: 220
- Aired: October, 2002 - February, 2007
Naruto Uzumaki rose quite a bit in the Naruto series. Going from loner who was basically a rascal to Hokage was paved with Naruto’s determination, courage and sheer power. Along the way to his rise though Naruto was met with quite a few beat downs as well as numerous slaps to the face from his teammates—like Sakura—and even his enemies. Luckily, Naruto is a strong shinobi so we’re pretty sure those slaps didn’t hurt…too badly at least.
4. Ichika Orimura from IS: Infinite Stratos
- Episodes: 12 (Season 1)
- Aired: January, 2011 - April, 2011
Occasionally, we feel bad for main characters like Ichika Orimura. From the mecha harem series—IS: Infinite Stratos—Ichika gets slapped so much by his female companions that you wonder how he can even eat or drink food anymore. Due to his blatant inability to “read the mood,” Ichika is forced to endure five fingers slamming into the side of his cranium so much that he might as well have his face etched with a permanent target. Fellow guy readers out there, we implore you to learn from Ichika’s mistakes in IS: Infinite Stratos. Realize when a girl seems to want something more from you and you’ll find your face not slapped like Ichika.
3. Takeru Ooyama from Maken-Ki!
- Episodes: 12 (Season 1)
- Aired: October, 2011 - December, 2011
If you choose to live as a pervert who seeks to see all that women offer, be prepared, folks. Takeru Ooyama from the Maken-Ki! series is perverted and isn’t shy to show it by trying to get the best vantage points on girls and by finding them in lewd situations. This running theme in Maken-Ki! allows Takeru to see women’s splendor, but equally, allows him to be slapped frequently by women who have quite powerful martial arts abilities. Imagine that for a moment reader. Getting slapped by anyone can be painful, but imagine being slapped by someone who is able to slice a board in half with their hand and the pain skyrockets to levels we shiver thinking about. Takeru...we envy you for having busty women around you 24/7, but don’t envy how your face must feel when you land in the wrong situation.
2. Keitarou Urashima from Love Hina
- Episodes: 24
- Aired: April, 2000 - September, 2000
Harems have solidified the concept of a perverted—or just “unlucky”—protagonist being the object of getting slapped in the face hard and consecutively. For a more classic example though, we need to go back to the early 2000s and look at Love Hina’s main man, Keitarou Urashima. Forced to live at an all-girls dorm—as if this was a bad thing for him though—Keitarou ends up running into girls who are quite quick to resort to violence if they feel they have been seen in lewd ways. Naru Narusegawa—Love Hina’s main female—tends to hit Keitarou often in the face with slaps that leave him bloody, battered and blasting off into the skies like he’s a member of Team Rocket from Pokemon. Keitarou might get an eye full of beautiful girls in Love Hina but the amount of slaps he receives might not be worth it at the end of the day…
1. Sousuke Sagara from Full Metal Panic!
- Episodes: 24 (Season 1)
- Aired: January, 2002 - June, 2002
Coming in at number one on our list—just due to season 1 alone—is everyone’s favorite military nut, Sousuke Sagara from Full Metal Panic! In the later seasons of Full Metal Panic!, Sousuke is less inclined to being slapped by tsundere protagonist Kaname Chidori. Sousuke still gets slapped so much in season 1 that he makes the top of our list without too much of a problem. What’s worse for the military man himself is that his slaps come from not just hands but from Chidori’s paper fan that hits hard and fast. Even with all of his military prowess, Sousuke just can’t seem to avoid these relentless blows to his face and we sometimes do feel bad for him…but then we find ourselves laughing and the sympathy seem to dissolve as if it was never there. Sousuke, we’d like to thank you all here at Honey’s Anime. Your constant slaps in season 1—as well as in Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu—provided us with much needed entertainment to prepare for the more serious tone that Full Metal Panic! ends up having later on.
Final Thoughts
Being slapped in real life can lead to a whirlwind of different responses from the person who ends up on the receiving end. Thus, we tell you readers out there to avoid hitting people even if it will end up being somewhat comedic in the long run. Instead, watch the shows above to see various protagonists take an open hand to the face and usually with a loud noise and comedy related sound effect that just makes that particular slap ever so satisfying. Do you know any anime characters who could have made our list of the Top 10 Characters Who Have Received the Most Slaps in the Face? We know we probably missed some great ones—as the list of characters is quite long—so tell us who and why they should have been added.
