You already know what time it is! Wow summer is almost gone and I can’t believe it! I just watched the finale for both Charlotte and Gakkou Gurashi (School – Live) and was shocked at one of them. Then I realized though, that fall is coming soon. Before we can enjoy the fall shows, we should appreciate the summer ones and see where the cutest/most kawaii girls lie when it comes to summer shows!
I enjoy a fairly large amount of action, seinen, and thriller anime. I also may or may not have a penchant for a very cute character in my shows. So here are the top 10 cutest/most kawaii girls of Summer 2015!
10. Isis Shirasaki from Classroom Crisis
- Episodes: 13
- Aired: July 2015 – September 2015
Stating out our list today is Isis Shiraki! Classroom Crisis is set way into to the future. You can now travel between planets! A company, Kirishina Corporation, has opened a special academy on Mars that focuses on students developing high class rocket engines. Classroom Crisis follows one such class as the deal with making a new engine while still being high school students. Isis is one such student along with Nagisa.
Isis is fairly quiet and shy adding to her cuteness factor. She also is not exactly the best when it comes to proper procedure and safety guidelines adding to the cuteness factor. She is best friends with Mizuki and Isis also has a great pity case going on. She doesn’t have some of her memories.
9. Albedo from Overlord
- Episodes: 13
- Aired: July 2015 to September 2015
One day, everyone was finished a raid in an MMO and logs out. Save for a character named Momonga that is. Momonga doesn’t want to leave the game of Yggdrasil, so he doesn’t log out. Suddenly the world is of NPCs that have real personalities? He becomes an all-powerful overlord of the game? He summons the guardians of the arena floors and Albedo is now his servant.
What’s awesome about Albedo is she’s so adorably cute. She was originally programmed to be a nymphomaniac but instead, she is full of undying love for Aniz. She is the highest ranking NPC so she is not one to be beat. She even comes equipped with a pair of black angel wings around her waist and a pair of horns on her head. She is filled with adorable jealousy when it appears that someone else is vying for Aniz’s attention.
8. Youko Shiragami from Jitsu wa Watashi wa (Actually, I Am)
- Episodes: 13
- Aired: July 2015 – September 2015
Jitsu wa watashi wa follows Asahi Kuromine as a new high school student. He has a problem though, he has loose lips. He stumbles across a girl one day folding vampire bat wings into her uniform?!? What’s going on? Her name is Youko and she has to hide the fact that she is half-vampire from the entire school or her father will take her out of this school. Asahi is now on a misson to try and keep it a secret while finding other demi-humans and mythological beings in his own school.
Youko is a bubbly and absent minded adorable girl. She speaks with a thick Kansai-ben accent which betrays her upbeat nature in the beginning. She comes across as aloof, but eventually her sweet side comes out. Due to her fate being intertwined with Asahi’s she has to be careful not to be exposed. At first she keeps him at arm’s length as a friend, but then sweetly falls in love with him. She is stupefied by some very basic concepts which kind of creates a humorous aspect about her as well.
7. Fremy Speeddraw from Rokka no Yuusha (Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers)
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: July 2015 – September 2015
Rokka no Yuusha is about six heroes that are chosen by the Goddess of Fate. They are referred to as the Braves and they are selected to defeat the Demon God. However, once they all assemble there’s a slight problem. They’re ready to fight, but there are seven heroes?? Fremy is one of those heroes.
Fremy is the sharpshooter of the Braves. She can create bullets out of thin air. She loves dogs so much that she is even introduced when she saves two dogs. She has feelings for Adlet and even gets cutely jealous when he is nice to other girls. She as well is very dedicated in what she does and she is loyal to a fault especially as when it comes to at first Tgurneu and then Adlet. Her dislike for humans is borderline cute as she struggles to come to terms with liking Adlet.
6. Akane Sakurada from Joukamachi no Dandelion (Castle Town Dandelion)
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: July 2015 – September 2015
Akane is the fourth child of nine siblings. Her father is the king of a country and she along with her siblings are in a race for the crown. How does the city decide who to make the next ruler? They decide by putting cameras everywhere to see everything that they are doing at all time! Akane struggles to deal with this and fight off her shyness of cameras.
The reason Akane has made in on this list is due to her acute dislike of cameras which leads to cuteness, her adorable reactions, and her alter-ego. Her twin pigtails may or may not have also been a deciding factor. Don’t forget too, it’s not just about that her “alter-ego” existed. When she struggled with her powers, her siblings gave her the “alter-ego.”
This gave her the inner strength to deal with her awkwardness about her powers while helping others. What’s so cute about this is that she doesn’t even realize that her whole family and the two are in on the scheme. Nothing is more adorable than a character who can overcome their own flaws as a human being. This is something that Akane does while bringing the viewer in closer.
5. Nao Tomori from Charlotte
- Episodes: 13
- Aired: July 2015 – September 2015
I explained Charlotte with the entry about Ayumi, so I’ll present you with Nao-sama’s awesomeness! Originally Nao starts out as the queen of tsundere. She bring in Yuu after forcing him to transfer to their school. She is very hardworking and smart. She has an adorable short temper and tries to conceal it, but it doesn’t work out so well. She originally stays leery of Yuu and keeps him at a distance.
What saved Nao was after (SPOILER) Ayumi dies for the first time and Yuu runs away. In order to save him, Nao uses her ability to hide herself from him and then reveals herself finally when she wants him to come home. She really loves Zhiend and her brother who she sweetly takes care of after he was exploited. She cutely stays by his side towards the end of the series as she develops feelings.
The best part is when she tells Yuu that they are lovers when he wakes up with no memories from taking all the abilities of all users on the planet to save humanity.
4. Kurumi Ebisuzawa from Gakkou Gurashi! (School-Live!)
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: July 2015 – September 2015
Gakkou Gurashi doesn’t need much of an introduction because I’m sure that everyone has seen it. Just in case you have not, Gakkou Gurashi is about four/five girls living within a self-sustaining school. They form a club to help them get through their daily lives and classes. They never leave the school though… Why don’t they leave? A Zombie invasion is keeping them in!
Many people would think that Yuki deserves to be on this list, but the other three/four girls play babysitter for her the entirety of the show. The real cute factor here lies with Kurumi. She, also, has twin pigtails, plenty of unnecessary fashion, and a shovel that acts as her weapon. She adorably protects the team constantly. She looks like a Japanese high school girl who fell through a Hot Topic store on her way to school.
She fearlessly fights to save her team, and ultimately ends up making the most tragic sacrifice for her team. Her bright and bubbly personality was also why she ended up as number three!
3. Ayumi Otosaka from Charlotte
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: July 2015 – September 2015
Charlotte follows teens that develop special powers at puberty. The powers normally disappear by adulthood. Yuu Otosaka lives with his sister Ayumi. He’s a genius… thanks to his powers which allow him to swap bodies with someone else for a few seconds. He cheats his way to a good school! He is eventually caught and force-transferred to a new school where he teams up with Nao and Jojiro to protect other users.
Ayumi is the character that caters to everyone who has an imouto complex or just enjoys the overall imouto archetype. Ayumi is here for her adorable upbeat personality, the centrality to the plot of Charlotte, her deep need to take care of her older brother, and her love of everything How-Low-Hello.
She sweetly takes care of all the cooking and household chores for Yuu. Her love is boundless when it comes to him. She loses her marbles, even though she is supposed to be sick, when she meets Yusa. (SPOILER) She almost ends up with a very tragic ending. I know that everyone reading this wants to run up and give her a hug when you get home. (No really it’s not just me right?)
2. Shirayuki (Snow White) from Akagami no Shirayuki-hime (Snow White with the Red Hair)
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: July 2015 – September 2015
Every once in a while, you get a retelling of a timeless classic with a new twist. Thus Shirayuki was born into this story. It’s Snow White all right, but it doesn’t stop with the forest and it drops the evil queen to bring in a foolish prince looking for a unique bride. The real story starts though when she runs away introducing us to her character.
The reason why Shirayuki is on this list is that she is pure. Shirayuki takes great pride in her work. She’s honest and not too foolish to blindly agree to things. Probably the best example is how when Zen hurts himself and instead of arguing with him, she hurts herself and applies her own medicine. Logical and a heart of gold
What’s not to love? Oh right, her faithfulness to Zen throughout the show too. Not only that, she is such a good person, so she continues to try to find work as a pharmacist. She’s not content with life in a castle. She wants to help others! Hear me now: she has a heart of gold that is adorably cute!
1. Umaru Doma from Himouto! Umaru-chan
- Episodes: 12
- Aired: July 2015 – September 2015
Umaru Doma is the protagonist of this show which follows her in her everyday life as a high school girl. She’s essentially the perfect girl. She gets good grades, has good looks, and she just generally succeeds at all things in life. Until she comes home. Once home, she becomes this adorable otaku imouto who is obsessed with video games, manga, anime and wearing her anime hoodie.
The amount of moe that she exudes is limitless. Once indoor she appears as a chibi girl surrounded by her animal hoodie. Her best scene has to be with the Hatsune Miku doll case with the alternative face. She tells her brother to throw away a box, not realizing that the alternative face is still in the box. She manipulates him into going back out to recover the box. Until he hilariously comes back with a geisha doll and she tells him that the box wasn’t really that important to her anyway.
Her cute antics have left many in tears of laughter multiple times and she succeeds in winning everyone’s hearts. Mostly because we all way to give her hugs and take care of her but I digress… This was definitely a show that I couldn’t wait for more of! Umaru is the best!
There you have it! That’s my list for the Top 10 Cutest/Kawaii girls of summer 2015! I really struggled with this topic because it’s hard to pick and choose shows and characters over each other. That being said, I think that it panned out well! I hope you enjoy! Is there anything you would have changed? Let me know in the comments below!
