Gakuen Alice is a super cute anime and simply gives you a good feeling watching it. Despite its cutesy take in the anime, it really has an intricate and complex story line. Mikan’s journey starts when her best friend Hotaru transfers to an Academy for gifted students called, Alices.
Once Mikan arrives at the school, she meets with a teacher named Narumi. Narumi, who discovers that she has a very special Alice and allows her to enroll into the Academy. The academy has many different types of students that are gifted with special Alices.
Mikan is in this list because of her amount of rare Alices. She possesses the Nullification, Stealing and Inserting Alice. Perhaps in battle with magic users from other anime, Mikan and her Alice can stand a high chance of dominance!
4. Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach

In the name of good shounen, we’ll find Ichigo Kurosaki to be one of the most grouchy faced magic user that is able to steal the hearts of many. Ichigo is one of those that can actually say, “Started from the bottom, now we here.” His story starts out quite normal until he stumbles into the world of Soul Society and Shinigamis.
A stranger to none, Ichigo becomes an icon as the badass Shinigami that slays hollows. More often than not, we think of magic users as a Magical winged girl or the nerdy boy. However, Ichigo stands to prove us wrong that magic wielders can not only be drop-dead hunky but also equipped with a side of darkness. Besides, what cooler magic powers would you want other than to have magic powers like the Gods of Death? All I want to say is simply: Slay boy, slay.
3. Natsu Dragneel from Fairy Tail
- Episodes: 252 and counting

Fairy Tail being one of the most recognised magic anime in the world, of course we had to put this on the list. Fairy Tail takes place in a fictional world called, Asu Rando. The place is filled with wizards whom are all in guilds of their own. In the story, we meet Natsu Dragneel, aka the Dragon Slayer. Natsu is in one of the worlds most famous guild called, Fairy Tail.
Natsu has a super optimistic and friendly personality. In the story, he teams up with Lucy, his cat-like familiar named Happy, an ice wizard, Gray, and an armoured wizard, Erza. Together they go on crazy adventures.
Natsu ranks in the elite group of greatest magic users because of his mad powerful dragon-like abilities. He is immune to flames and he is able to breath fire and ignite fire. Throughout the story, he also learns many cool abilities such as the dragon force. The dragon force boosts his speed and strength and covers his body with scales just like a real dragon. Can’t get cooler than that.
2. Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura
- Episodes: 70
- Aired: April 1998 - March 2000
Cardcaptor Sakura is a household name if you’re a girl growing up with anime (if you’re a boy, thats fine too. No judgements). As one of Clamp’s name maker, Cardcaptor Sakura has given us a beloved Magical girl that sets the standard for all. This anime is about Sakura Kinomoto’s (the elected Guardian of the Cards) journey in capturing the scattered cards from the book of Clow.
Second on the list is a can’t miss Magical Girl character that is simply charming and funny. With the boom of Majou anime in the scene, Sakura remains a classic and lovable heroine. Sakura’s personality encompass an all-time classical cheery girl that is fighting to save the world. Along with Keroberos, she takes on a long journey while keeping her spirit high. Sakura is certainly a favourite to many and there isno doubt revisiting this anime is a fun stroll down memory lane.
1. Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Hagane no Renkinjutsushi)
- Episodes: 64
- Aired: April 2009 - July 2010
First on the list is our two brothers from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. A remake from the first anime, this one follows the manga’s storyline closely and triumphs above its predecessor. In hopes to restore his younger brothers body, Alphonse, Edward Elric embarks on a journey in search of the Philosopher's Stone. Through that process, the two brothers have to deal with homunculi and more alchemy.
The reason why Edward tops the list is because of his remarkable alchemy skills and swift combatant knowhow. I’m sure after watching Fullmetal Alchemist, we are all envious of Edwards’ talent to just clap his hands together to perform alchemical transmutation (Don’t deny trying to clap the heck out of yourself). His alchemy ability enhanced with his sweet spot for his brother and his adaptable combat style, is short to say simply magical.
So, there you have it, a countdown to the Top 10 Anime Magic Characters. We have abilities that come from thin air, familiars, a magic staff or even a transmutation circle. Never mind the form, it’s safe to say anime would not be a mind-blowing entity if it were not for the magical hero and heroine in them.
As our realm is full of new and old magical beings, it is absolutely impossible to say who do and do not belong in this list. If you have a favourite Magic character, just leave us a comment 🙂
