Top Manga 7 by Yonezou Nekota

INTRODUCTION

Yonezou Nekota is one of the most loved, appreciated and popular yaoi manga artists. She started to move her first steps in the yaoi and shounen-ai universe via doujinshi, and then she bloomed and suddenly became super-popular.

The very cornerstone of her stories is a lot of smut – since usually the seme is a teaser and the uke a crybaby – with some well-placed kinks that sometimes make the readers crack-up (for example, white briefs). Aside from smut and kinks, Yonezou Nekota's stories are full of comedy parts, snotty characters who cry their eyes out, beautiful boys, and sometimes drama. There's nothing to fear, though, as Yonezou Nekota tends to please the readers and so you will be flooded with tenderness and romanticism!

As for Yonezou Nekota's art style, she is amazing. Her style is clear, well-defined, and absolutely harmonious. She loves drawing detailed scenes and characters, and her style is literally unique. In this list we intend to mention her most popular works, those that made readers hearts melt, so stick with us until the end and discover this amazing manga artist!

7. Miwaku Shikake: Amai Wana (Lured into a Sweet Trap)

  • Genre: Comedy, Romance, Yaoi
  • Volumes: 1
  • Published Date: June 2013 – October 2016

Let's start with a tormented love story between a boy and his superior! Amami is just starting to work for a little start-up firm, when he discovers to have big trouble dealing with his superior Hachidori. Hachidori likes to make a fool out of Amami, all the more when Amami is clearly narrow-minded and naive. One night, though, Amami discovers a big secret regarding Hachidori... his superior is actually a drag-queen?!

In this manga we find all the elements we mentioned before about Yonezou Nekota! There are kinks, as Hachidori is a drag-queen; there are snotty characters, as Amami is a crybaby; there's a seme character who likes to tease the uke, and we must say in this story the seme is actually very mean. It goes without saying that this story is full of comedy, seeing the premises! Nothing to mention about the art style, as Yonezou Nekota did another little masterpiece. Miwaku Shikake: Amai Wana is nothing deep, but it's amazing if you just want to read something lighthearted and have fun!

6. Tsuyogari (Secret of a Youth)

  • Genre: Comedy, Romance, School life, Yaoi
  • Volumes: 1
  • Published Date: April 2008

Let's get going with a manga that is a collection of stories connected with each other! In Tsuyogari, Yonezou Nekota created a universe full of childhood friends, brothers and stuff, on the background of school life. Four are the couples here described: Shiba and Onosaka, and their student/teacher relationship; Inuo and Natsuda, and their trouble to admit they're gay; Keisuke and Aki, and their unintelligible relationship; Yuki and Kaneda, two childhood friends who seem to start drawing apart from each other.

With Tsuyogari, Yonezou Nekota proved once again to be very skilled. She managed to create loosely connected one-shots, without resulting hasty in the development of the various relationships. Tsuyogari is totally enjoyable; each story is full of teenage angst, strange complexes, tenderness and inexperience, in other words, it is full of all what youth brings. This is a rare gem full of what we love about Yonezou Nekota, from her art style, to the intense smut!

5. Otona Keikenchi (Adult Experience Value)

  • Genre: Comedy, Romance, School life, Yaoi
  • Volumes: 1
  • Published Date: 2007 – 2008

With Otona Keikenchi, Yonezou Nekota gave us yet another story revolving around teenage boys. Yumeji is a beautiful boy, talented in sports, with high grades and of course, all the popularity that comes with it. He has just one problem: he is impotent! Due to a trauma, he can't seem to solve his problem. One day, an underclassman shows up in front of him: Seiji. He is violent, tactless, and runs his mouth. Seiji states that he is in love with Yumeji, and is willing to “help” him solve his problem. Otona Keikenchi also contains a one-shot about Maru and Mu, Yumeji's friends who fall in love with each other.

Yonezou Nekota created a witty story, full of all the gags that can come with a teenage being impotent. Seiji, in spite being small and cute, is actually a beast and a powerful seme. Yumeji, on the contrary, in spite being tall and really handsome, is actually a hopeless crybaby. As the story is funny and interesting per se, the one-shot concerning Maru and Mu is yet another beautiful story full of smut and tears. Otona Keikenchi has the right amount of comedy and romance, all of it spiced with a lot of smut... Yonezou Nekota scored another point!

4. Kamisama no Ude no Naka (In the God's Arms)

  • Genre: Drama, Romance, School life, Yaoi
  • Volumes: 4
  • Published Date: 2004 – 2010

Let's go on with a somewhat non-conventional story. Kamisama no Ude no Naka is a collection of stories, revolving around a dormitory, in an all-boys catholic school. Did you notice? Yonezou Nekota likes describing the angst of teenagers who don't know how to deal with their lives yet. In this manga we find a rigid public school, with all what comes with it, and boys who fall in love with other boys and have to hide.

This story is amazing; we find in it a lot of different characters, each of them deeply described in their innermost. The drama parts, here, are definitely more than the comedy ones. All the characters are somehow connected, and each of their story is told in a very nostalgic and painful way. Don't forget, though, that it's Yonezou Nekota we're talking about! With this manga, she makes her characters and readers struggle, but she gives them a happy ending eventually. Without forgetting to spice things up with a lot of smut and hot scenes!

3. Michiru Heya

  • Genre: Mature, Drama, Romance, School life, Yaoi
  • Volumes: 2
  • Published Date: August 2006 – August 2014

Michiru Heya was born as a doujinshi, later collected in a two-volume manga. This story is adapted from Kamisama no Ude no Naka, and so once again here we are in an all-boys catholic school. This time, though, the story revolves around two characters: Renold and Roger. Roger is a prostitute well-known for dumping his clients when they start to feel something for him. While initially Renold is bothered to share his room with Roger, the two of them gradually grow close and Renold realizes that he probably likes Roger more than as a simple friend...

Michiru Heya is yet another dramatic story, maybe even more dramatic than Kamisama no Ude no Naka, as it wields obscure themes such as violence, prostitution, family issues. Roger is a boy who ended up selling his body due to a serious family issue, while Renold is confused about himself. Their relationship will develop gradually, and in the end life will put both of them in front of a choice. With Michiru Heya, Yonezou Nekota created probably the saddest of her stories. For as sad as it is, though, it's totally worth reading as she never fails and pleases just everyone!

2. Hidoku Shinaide (Don't be Cruel)

  • Genre: Mature, Drama, Adult, Romance, Smut, Slice of life, School life, Yaoi
  • Volumes: 6
  • Published Date: January 2007 – ongoing

Our 2nd position is Yonezou Nekota's ongoing longest series, which counts an entire volume as a spinoff related to other characters, and various doujinshi. It revolves around Maya, the high school bully, and Nemugasa, the bespectacled honor student. Their universes are on opposite sides, and problems arise when Maya, on a whim, threatens Nemugasa after forcing him to masturbate in front of him. Afraid of losing face as an honor student, Nemugasa plays along with Maya for a bit, but when push comes to shove, and the tables turn... Who will be the one to fall in love first?

Yonezou Nekota's Hidoku Shinaide is a manga which literally includes all what you'd expect from her. There's a bully seme, a whiny bespectacled uke, and a lot of characters around them, each of them well-described and with their own story. Hidoku Shinaide begins with two high school boys, and what's interesting is that their story develops and goes on, and we see their growth and how they jump from high school, to university, to the adulthood. It's a real masterpiece, and Yonezou Nekota dedicated an entire volume to Akira – Maya'a cousin – and Naoya, his boyfriend. Hidoku Shinaide is amazingly good, with a lot of smut, gags and characters who like to tease each other! Definitely one of Yonezou Nekota's best works.

1. Mousou Elektel (Delusion Elektel)

  • Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance, Slice of life, School life, Smut, Yaoi
  • Volumes: 4
  • Published Date: April 2009 – November 2012

Let's end this ranking with our beloved high school delusional boys, Shunpei Yamana and Fumihiro Motoki! Childhood friends, always together, Shunpei and Fumi hide no secret to the other... Or at least, that's what Shunpei had been thinking. One day, though, Fumi comes out stating that he is gay and has found himself a cute lover! Shunpei can't believe his ears; firstly, his best friend is gay and secondly how come Shunpei is not the boy Fumi has a crush on?! These are the premises for a high school romance comedy that can squeeze both, your stomach and your heart!

Mousou Elektel is probably Yonezou Nekota's most popular series! And it's no wonder, we'd say. Shunpei is your typical idiotic high school boy, a bit narrow-minded and unwilling to accept the reality as it is; Fumi is introverted, and always prone to delusions. These two are on total opposite sides, but that's why they will glue together. Mousou Elektel is a very funny manga, with comedy parts even when drama strikes. It's literally one of those manga you read pleasantly, and it gives you all what you expect: laughter, hot scenes, absurd gags, interesting characters and mysterious ones! With Yonezou Nekota's art style, plus her ability to describe situations in detail, this is her best series so far and the one we recommend you all the most!

Final Thoughts

With the funny Shunpei, and the delusional Fumihiro, our chart comes to an end. We really hope you enjoyed the ride, as Yonezou Nekota is an amazing manga artist who totally deserved a mention! As we said up above, she is good with just every subject she decides to deal with. Smut, kinks, tears, comedy, and a beautiful art style are her strong points. With her humor, her non-conventional way of thinking, and the importance she gives to her fans opinions, Yonezou Nekota became an inspiration for all her manga artist colleagues, who like her stories just like any other fan! We thank you for sticking with us until the end, and let us know what you think in the comments below. See you next time!
