Ushio Aotsuki is a junior high school boy that lives with his father in a temple. One day Ushio visits his basement to find a legendary demon that had been trapped underneath his house for 500 years. Ushio pulled out the Beast Spear that sealed the demon’s powers, and at the same time acquired special powers from the legendary spear to protect his friends from the bloodthirsty demons roaming the city. Given the name 'Tora' by Ushio, the legendary demon decided to cooperate with Ushio from fear of being sealed once again by the Beast Spear.

Ushio is a 14 year-old middle schooler and the protagonist of the series. He discovers a demon that was sealed away for 500 years by a spear in his basement. Ushio acquired special powers from the “Beast Spear” that he pulled out of the demon, which at the same time unsealed the demon which he named 'Tora'.

Tora

Voice Actor: Rikiya Koyama

Named by Ushio, Tora is a legendary demon that was sealed by the “Beast Spear” for 500 years. He largely resembles a tiger with sharp claws and strong fangs. Leaving a name from the terror he reigned across Japan 800 years ago, mentioning his name sends shivers down the spines of the deadliest of demons. Despite his reputation, Tora possesses a surprisingly childish personality and is often quarrelling with Ushio over the smallest matters.

Asako Nakamura

Voice Actor: Kiyono Yasuno

Ushio’s childhood friend. Asako is a confident and cheerful girl that cares for others, which sometimes overboard. She was taught karate by her father from a young age, and will not step back in a fight even against large groups of men.

Mayuko Inoue

Voice Actor: Kazumi Togashi

Ushio’s childhood friend. She is best friends with Asako. While she is a natural airhead, she is big-hearted and demonstrates great courage when confronted with fear.

Shigure Aotsuki

Voice Actor: Keiji Fujiwara

Ushio’s father. Prior to Ushio’s awakening, he lived the life of your average chief priest. Later he reveals his true self as an expert exorcist.

Reiko Hanyuu

Voice Actor: Yui Makino

Ushio’s classmate. She is a year older than Ushio due to repeating a year in school. She is childhood friends with Kenichi Masaki, and calls him Ken-chan.
