Synopsis

Masaki, who was born and raised in Ibaraki Prefecture near the Ōarai Coast, meets a prince-like transfer student named Sho. Sho introduces him to surfing -- the ultimate sport where you use nothing but a board to face off against the mighty waves of the ocean. Thus begins a never-ending story of a group of boys hooked on surfing. Only on the water can they be truly free!

Wave!!: Surfing Yappe!! was released in Japan as 3 separate movie releases in October 2020 and broadcasted/streamed as a Winter 2021 TV anime series.

Characters & Voice Actors

Masaki Hinaoka: Tomoaki Maeno

He loves surfing but can’t swim to save his life. He’s a surfer from Ōarai and has an exceptional sense of balance. He has a beloved pet corgi named Isokichi.

Sho Akatsuki: Jin Ogasawara

A transfer student from Hayama who is a prince-like surfer with good-looks and grades to match. He inspires Masaki to take up surfing.

Nal Tanaka: Yoshiki Nakajima

A free-spirited science guy who loves the ocean and his ukulele. He’s Masaki’s childhood friend and is half-Japanese and half-Haiwaiian. Nal means “wave” in Hawaiian.

Iwana Kosuke: Takuya Satou

A tough, hot-blooded surfer who trains constantly and always tackles challenges head-on. He used to be a baseball player.

Yuta Matsukaze: Yusuke Shirai

He’s been surfing since before he can remember. He uses data analysis to predict the waves. His favorite food is shirasu-don -- a bowl of white rice topped with baby sardines.

Naoya Kido: Shunichi Toki

A surfer from Oita who uses a magical girl anime surfboard. He’s extremely passionate about Magical Girl Miruru. He lives to watch late night anime.

Rindo Fuke: Nobuhiko Okamura

The undisputed king of the surfing world who has astounding mental focus. He’s known as the bucking horse of Miyazaki. He’s Japan’s greatest surfer and can ride any wave that comes his way.

Soichiro William Mori: Morikubo Shotarou

A young man who comes from a very wealthy family. He loves surfing immensely and uses his wealth without reservation to support his fellow surfing lovers.

Shoko: Yu Shimamura

A worker at a surf shop in Ōarai called Fantasy Island.　

Shop Manager: Hiroki Yasumoto

The shop manager of Ōarai’s surf shop, Fantasy Island.
