I accidentally met her at the gym’s second floor to run away from classes. Strangely enough, this is also where Shimamura and I became friends. I don’t know why I’m feeling like this. I dreamed of kissing her. I’m not sure how Shimamura would feel about this. Does she think of me as a friend or more? I just want to be the first person she thinks about.

Discussion Time
Just want to say welcome back for another Adachi and Shimamura review. This time, we will be covering the manga version of this series. You may not know about this, but we also made a review for its light novel version. Go check it out if you are interested in the source.
Back to the manga review, the story is about two girls who have a similar yet different mindset with the aim of spending time away from classes. As the character and background designs are adorable and clean. The manga felt a bit rushed, but the chapters focus on their date, to Adachi at least.
1. Designs and Backgrounds
The character designs of this manga are simple, but their personalities and relationship they had together made them cute in their own way. We didn’t expect the mangaka to commit to the details of the surrounding characters, internal and exterior buildings, and the one element that is extremely close to an actual object, their school shoes.
2. A First Love Experience
We know you love to see and read an innocent first love coming from a maiden. Adachi goes through a process of identifying the feeling she had in her when it comes to Shimamura. The problem Adachi faces is how society would perceive her relationship with Shimamura. The social stigma she holds gives her a reason or purpose to search within herself to understand what she really wants and needs in her life that gives happiness.
3. The Way Things Are
We are pretty sure some readers can relate to Adachi and Shimamura's way of hanging out. Their meetings are not very consistent and it makes us see them somewhere between friends and special relationships. Sure, both characters have romantic feelings toward one another, but both of them don’t want to confess their feelings and risk ruining their current relationship.
1. Too Fast
This may apply to anyone who read the original light novels of this series, you will notice how many missing contexts are not included in the manga. However, the manga can serve to complement the stories we have read so far to see a bigger picture. From manga readers’ perspective, the manga covers the main story of the source to focus on the character developments and how their relationship grows.
Final Thoughts
Adachi to Shimamura (Adachi and Shimamura) volume 1 manga is rather straightforward as in getting to the main scenes of the series. It focuses on the character development and relationship progress between Adachi and Shimamura. There is a lot of love coming from the mangaka when it comes to the characters and surrounding characters and environments. But! The story progression in the manga can be seen and felt rushed and there wasn’t much context to explain how they got to those points. If you have read this manga, let us know what your thoughts are and which chapter is your favorite so far.
