What an exciting chapter of Yakusoku no Neverland! In chapter 142, we revisit the past again as we see our party of heroes wondering what happened to their comrade. When he reappears, the party is elated but quickly learn they have been betrayed! Despite their best efforts, a promise is forged which starts the 1000-year long ritual of having humans being fed to the demons in exchange for the two worlds being divided. However, the initial party acts as the first meal—that was truly a dark panel—and our Judas ends up losing his ability to go home and now must forever act as the gatekeeper between the two worlds! Talk about just desserts! Meanwhile, Emma finally makes her promise which is to have all the children from the farms be returned to the human world and for travel between both worlds to be…impossible. Now, we didn’t think about that initially, but that final promise means Emma, Ray and Norman along with other children outside the farms would forever be trapped in the demon world! Emma…did you make the right decision? While we chew on Emma’s new promise, let’s talk about why you need to read chapter 142 of Yakusoku no Neverland right this very seconds!
1. Emma’s Promise
That promise made from Emma truly seems like a double-edged sword. While the children doomed to be food in the farms will finally be freed and sent to a proper human world—if that world is actually better than this one—it also means travel between both worlds is now a no-go. How will Emma, Ray, and Norman along with those still in the demon world survive against their devourers who will truly be angry? Your guess is as good as ours, folks, but we can’t wait for future chapters to reveal if Emma’s plan will work or will doom everyone in a way worse then now.
2. Dark Past
Yakusoku no Neverland isn’t afraid to occasionally be dark. We’ve seen children being eaten for food and killed as well as tortured in ways inconceivable by man. Yet, that past revelation with Julius—the guy we called Judas above—allowing his comrades/friends to be eaten for his own freedom and selfish desires was horrifying. Yakusoku no Neverland showed that the past started on nightmarish beginnings which equally match the present we’re seeing unfold.
Final Thoughts
Yakusoku no Neverland chapter 142 was a truly spectacular chapter! The dark moments of the past revealed fully sent chills down our spines and Emma’s new promise made us fear for her future alongside the others. Is there something we’re missing in Emma’s promise?
