A girl who has lost her love creates an imaginary friend named Rudger. The two of them have a wonderful time playing in the worlds of imagination and reality, until one day a sinister man comes looking for Rudger, and the world of imagination begins to fade.
Yaneura no Rudger is the latest feature film from Studio Ponoc — their first in five years since Mary and The Witch’s Flower, a hit that screened in 150 countries. The story is based on The Imaginary by A.F. Harrold, a masterpiece novel that has won multiple literary awards. The film will be directed by Yoshiyuki Momose, a genius who worked at Studio Ghibli for many years as the right-hand man of the late Isao Takahata. Set in a world where people’s imaginations can be eaten, The Imaginary is a moving fantasy work that depicts an invisible battle with the future and the heroine’s loved ones hanging in the balance.
