However, for all of you people who have read the manga and are clawing for more, let us help you fill in the gap all of the anticipation has left in you. Today, we’re taking a look at a few series, manga or manhwa, that you can check out if you want a bit of the twisted, dark and psychological like Happy Sugar Life.
3. Watashi no... Megane-Kun
- Mangaka: Sumoto Amu
- Genres: Drama, Romance, School, Shoujo
- Volumes: 7
- Published: July 2001 - November 2003
If you were looking for a twisted love story, Watashi no… Megane-kun is a great place to start. While this is a shoujo manga, we get to explore the obsessive and often controlling traits that come with romantic relationships as shown with Chouko and Taichiro. They both have their own unusual ways of expressing their feelings for each other and their own feelings suffocate them throughout most of the series. While not quite as violent or bloody as Happy Sugar Life, you do get to see another twisted view of love.
2. Killing Stalking
- Mangaka: Koogi
- Genres: Drama, Horror, Psychological, Mature, Yaoi
- Volumes: ongoing
- Published: ongoing
The relationship between Yoon Bum and Sangwoo is not for the faint of heart. Yoon Bum is a masochistic stalker who finds himself at the mercy of a man he thought he knew (from afar anyway) and loved, Sangwoo. In fact, Sangwoo is a serial killer and sadist who keeps Yoon Bum hostage in his house. The relationship between these two is twisted and while Yoon Bum is constantly terrified and wishing to run away, we can really see Stockholm syndrome at work here as Sangwoo gives Yoon Bum little bits of affection in between abusive actions. Killing Stalking is sure to mess with your mind and emotions, and you better be ready for it. Are you willing to ship this?
1. Flower of Evil
- Mangaka: Lee Hyeon-sook
- Genres: Drama, Romance, Shoujo, Tragedy, Psychological, School Life, Mature
- Volumes: 7
- Published: 2006 - 2008
Romance between twins is more than a little complicated, but add in jealous girlfriends and a boy who shows up claiming to be their childhood friend and the crap hits the fan fast. Se-Joon and Se-wa find themselves locking into more relationships with people, but this only causes them to cling to each other. While Se-Wa may seem to be the one with obsessive tendencies, Se-Joon takes the cake leading to a rather dark and tumultuous relationship.
Final Thoughts
Well, hopefully you enjoyed these three recommendations for series like Happy Sugar Life! While they aren’t exactly the same, they really take on a similar twisted view of love that is shown in Happy Sugar Life anime and manga alike. If you have any more suggestions, feel free to let share so we can all enjoy a bit more of the twisted!
