5 Anime Characters With Unique Parents

One of the unifying ideas that exist in almost every anime is the fact that the main character is the chosen one. Out of every living creature on earth, this particular human being is the one that can defeat the demon lord and save the world. More often than not, that special trait comes from their lineage. They are special because their parents are special, or maybe one of their ancestors did something remarkable in the past and they get to enjoy the benefits today.
So in this article, let’s talk about several great characters that have peculiar parents. Their father and mother are as interesting to talk about as they are. With that in mind, here are 5 anime characters with unique parents.

5. Anya Forger from Spy x Family (Spy Father and Assassin Mother)

Let’s start with the current fan favorite, Anya Forger from Spy x Family. Spy x Family revolves around the concept of a fake family consisting of remarkable people who don't realize that the other persons are actually remarkable. Except for one person, the stepdaughter, Anya Forger. Anya is an esper who can read other people’s minds. That is why she knows that her father, Loid Forger, is actually a spy for the neighboring nation, while her mother, Yor Forger, is actually a deadly assassin with unbelievable strength.

Anya is just a little girl, so she doesn’t really know what the people who hold those professions actually have to do. The only thing she knows is the simple fact of how awesome and interesting it is to occasionally peek into the minds of her spy father and assassin mother and to secretly join them on their mission.

4. Ame and Yuki from Wolf Children (Werewolf Father and Human Mother)

Ame and Yuki are not normal children. They are werewolves. They inherit the werewolves gene from their father because their mother is actually just a normal human being. As to how their mother ended up falling for their father, well, she didn’t know at the time that the man that she just met was actually a werewolf. Because their father meets their mother while still in his human form. Unfortunately, Ame and Yuki’s father passed away and they have to be raised by their mother alone. Taking care of two children alone is very hard, so imagine how difficult it must be to raise two young werewolves.

Every entry in this list highlights the relationship between the parents and the child, but none of them are as laser-focused on that one aspect as Wolf Children. After all, the unique and heartwarming relationship between humans and werewolves not only stops with the husband but extends to the children as well.

3. William Maryblood from Faraway Paladin (Skeleton Father and Mummy Mother)

William G. Maryblood is actually similar to Anya because he is also adopted. Mary, Blood, and Gus used to be human warriors who fight against the evil God of the Undead who spread chaos, death, and misery throughout the whole world. Unfortunately, when they were about to fall on the battlefield, that same evil God appeared and turned them into undead. Blood became a living skeleton, Mary turned into a Zombie, and Gus became a ghost.

They lived a quiet life in an abandoned region for hundreds of years until one day they found a baby boy in one of the ruins. They named him William and raised him like their own child, with Gus being the Grandfather. Blood teaches him martial arts, Mary teaches him faith and healing techniques, while Gus teaches him Magic.

At some point in the story, Mary and Blood are finally able to pass on to the afterlife. That is when Gus encourages William to go out and see the world. As a reminder of his loving parents, William decided to use “Maryblood” as his surname, and add “G”, for grandpa Gus as his middle name. That way, the people that he loves will always be with him.

2. Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach (Shinigami Father and Quincy Mother)

This section will talk about Bleach’s Thousand-Year Blood War Arc, so if you haven’t read or watched this arc before, then be prepared for some spoilers.

In the world of Bleach, Shinigami and Quincy are mortal enemies that have been at each other’s throats for thousands of years. So the fact that Ichigo’s father is a shinigami while his mother is a Quincy is not only rare but is also extremely dangerous for both sides. That is why when they decided to get married, Ichigo’s parents abandoned their respective worlds and lived as regular people in Karakura town. Because they know if the people from either Soul Society or Wandenreich found out about them, they will be considered traitors and hunted to death.

On the other hand, thanks to his parents, Ichigo ended up with a body that is capable of using both shinigami and Quincy techniques, which is a big reason why he is the only one who can defeat Yhwach, the leader of Quincy.

1. Rin and Yukio from Blue Exorcist (Demon Father and Human Mother)

We already talk about the union between regular humans and non-humans in Wolf Children. Now it’s time to take it up another notch and talk about the relationship between a normal human, and Satan himself.

Rin’s mother has always been friendly toward all kinds of demons. She was someone who always managed to find good things in everybody, even if it was Satan himself. To be fair, she didn’t know at the time that she was hanging out with Satan. She thought it was just a lonely, harmless demon. To make things even worse, Satan also assumed the appearance of the man she liked at the time. So as she spent more time with him and heard his sweet words and fragile heart, she fell for him and ended up getting pregnant.

Unfortunately, those moments and feelings meant nothing to Satan. All he ever wanted was just a vessel to enable him to cross over to the human realm. And what better vessel out there other than his own hybrid sons who will be born in the human world?

Thankfully though, the Okumura boys are raised as decent human beings by their adopted father. His teachings and the care and love of the people around them are the things that ultimately allowed Rin and Yukio to not only overcome the influence of their biological father but also to go against him as hard as they could.

Final Thoughts

Having unique parents can be a great thing for some of our main characters, such as the case with Ichigo Kurosaki. On the other hand, it could also become a heavy burden that they need to overcome, such as in the case of the Okumura brothers.

One thing is for sure, the fact that they have such unique pairings of mother and father makes their story much more interesting to tell than other people. And that is one of the reasons why they are the main characters.
