Mai Sakurajima Highlights (Spoilers Beyond This Point)
1. Famous but down to earth
A lot of people think that celebrities tend to be very into themselves. With Mai, this is far from the truth. Rather than be full of herself or act like the world gravitates around her, Mai is someone who knows she’s famous but equally respects those below her. This can be seen throughout all of her meetings with people in Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai as she tries to help others and even treats most like normal people. We admire any star—real or not—who can be famous but still keep themselves on a normal level with society.
2. Willing to trust
Later in Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai, Mai is forced to watch Sakuta act as a pretend boyfriend for his kouhai. Many woman understandably would have issues trusting their partners in such an action but Mai is willing to give Sakuta the benefit of the doubt due to his kind nature and loyalty. Any potential girlfriend needs to be willing to trust her possible mate. Without that concept, any romance would be impossible and or make for one always built on insecurity. We hope Mai could trust us with her heart as we trust her to continue being the cute and kind girl she is to all.
3. Cute but tough
Maybe we keep thinking too much into the whole famous thing, but Mai continues to break that illusion we have by showing herself in way not often seen in a famous teenager. Even with her beauty and overall air of fame, Mai is just cute without having to put on a façade to prove it. Equally, Mai isn’t afraid to show she does have boiling points despite her cute nature as she often attacks Sakuta for being a bit of a perv.
4. Fear of being forgotten
While it might be ridiculous that someone’s fear of being forgotten would turn them legit invisible like it did with Mai—which acts as her Puberty Syndrome affliction—we here at Honey’s Anime can understand the fear of being forgotten all too well. It’s a terrifying thought to have an audience disappear from you and for anyone who fears the idea of being forgotten it can be nerve racking if your actions don’t come off to the world in a large way. Mai is lucky that thanks to Sakuta’s intervention, she was brought out of her invisibility and once more took the public’s eye. It goes to show that even famous men and women like Mai can fear being left to fade away as their popularity might wane here and there.
5. Rocks a bunny costume
Let’s face it, folks; Bunny costumes can be worn by numerous anime girls, but not all of them get the honor of looking good in them. Mai meanwhile has herself being toted on every poster for Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai with her rocking the bunny girl attire and doing a fabulous job with it. From her introduction in episode one of Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai with her parading herself in the bunny girl outfit, we knew Mai would bless our screens with some fan service. We honestly wish Mai would always wear the bunny girl outfit but also understand that might weaken the series a bit.
