  • Mangaka: Mutsuhana Eiko (Story) & Kamada (Art)
  • Genres: Comedy, Fantasy, Romance, Slice of Life, Shoujo
  • Volumes: 1+
  • Published: June 2022

Kicking off our list is a much-anticipated manga adaptation of the light novel series Doumo, Suki na Hito ni Horegusuri o Irai Sareta Majo desu. (Hi, I'm a Witch, and My Crush Wants Me to Make a Love Potion). As the title suggests, our protagonist is Roze, the Good Witch of the Lake – and she has a four-year-long crush on the Royal Knight, Harij. When the knight comes asking her to make a love potion, she is determined to stretch out the remaining time with Harij – and ends up with him visiting her every day?!

We have our own suspicions about the true target of the Royal Knight’s love potion, but even if we’re wrong, we hope that Roze and Harij can eventually find happiness with each other! This fantasy slice-of-life will be bubbling its way out of the nearest cauldron (bookstore) in June 2022.

4. Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion (The Reason Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke's Mansion)

  • Mangaka: Milcha (Story) & whale (Art)
  • Genres: Shoujo, Isekai, Fantasy, Romance
  • Volumes: 1+
  • Published: June 2022

Shoujo isekai are some of our personal favourite manga, combining the tropes of reincarnation with a heavier emphasis on drama and romance. Thankfully it’s no longer a niche sub-genre, and Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion is the next shoujo isekai we’re looking out for. The main character, Eunha, awakens inside the world of a novel as the ill-fated Raelina – destined to be poisoned to death by her betrothed!

Eunha won’t let this story end the same way again, so she follows a different path, spending six months as the fake fiancee of the cold-hearted but beautiful Duke Noah Wynknight. Only time will tell whether her knowledge of the characters and plot will help her avoid her pre-destined end…

Maybe we should all be careful what books we read, lest we wake up inside their pages!! Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion will be available in June this year.

3. Koi Wazurai no Ellie (Lovesick Ellie)

  • Mangaka: Fujimomo
  • Genres: Comedy, Romance, Shoujo, School Life

What’s a shoujo list without a light-hearted romantic comedy? Koi Wazurai no Ellie (Lovesick Ellie) is a calling card for lovesick teenagers and the romantics-at-heart! Wallflower Eriko is almost invisible, spending her high school days daydreaming of her handsome and perfect classmate Akira. She also tweets her daily fantasies under the screen name ‘Lovesick Ellie’ – and then one day, she witnesses Akira’s true personality, and has her Twitter revealed too!

Koi Wazurai no Ellie (Lovesick Ellie) proves people aren’t always what they seem. Akira is a two-faced boy, and plain, boring Eriko has quite the perverted fantasies! And yet somehow these two are about to embark on a strange, curious romance together…

This release missed a physical print run initially, so currently there are 12 volumes available digitally. Lovesick Ellie finds its way onto our 2022 list due to its physical release beginning in January. Kondasha has provided the release dates for the next year, with each volume being released near-monthly – great news for romance lovers!

When she falls into another world, she finds that a dark curse has forbidden the use of cleaning magic, and the residents of this world have really let things go!! Even Demon Kings need a clean castle to work in, and Sakura is determined to clean this kingdom up, even if it means working with the super-attractive demon king himself…

Maou Heika no Osoji Gakari (His Majesty the Demon King’s Housekeeper) is a light-hearted shoujo isekai with a soapy bucket full of cleaning, magic, and romance – and you can pick up the first volume in May 2022.

  • Mangaka: Agitogi Akumi (Story) & Kousaka Rito (Art)
  • Genres: Drama, Historical, Romance, Shoujo, Supernatural
  • Volumes: 1+
  • Published: September 2022

Our most anticipated shoujo read of the year is Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon (My Happy Marriage) – a beautifully complex historical fantasy making its way to manga format from the original light novels.

Miyo Saimori was born into a noble family of mages, but without any magic herself, she’s forced into a lowly servitude position by her abusive step-sister. Shunned and unloved by her family, Miyo is married off to the ruthless and cold commander, Kiyoka Kudou, whose previous fiancees have all fled from him within three days.

Miyo resigns herself to an endless cycle of abuse in her horrible life, only to discover that her beautiful husband-to-be is anything but the monster the rumors suggest. In a world that easily makes villains out of anybody who doesn’t fit the mold, Miyo and Kiyoka slowly open their hearts to each other – and discover the love and happiness they’ve been missing all along.

A dark romantic drama, Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon (My Happy Marriage) will be coming to shelves in September of 2022.
