5 Unique Thieves In Anime

Thieves in anime are often shown in a better light compared to its real-life counterpart. Some of them even manage to become an iconic character, such as Arsene Lupin the3rd, despite being a criminal. There's something mysterious and alluring about this particular profession that we can't help but feel attracted to.

But for the most part, most thieves in anime are just a rehash of the same idea. They just come and steal the precious items. But some thieves stand out from the rest because of their peculiarities. Whether it's due to how they execute their plan or due to the object of their crime, there's just something so unique about them. With that in mind, these are 5 of the most unique thieves in anime.

5. Laurent Thierry From Great Pretender

Rather than just a regular thief, Laurent actually falls under a more specific category called a con man. He's not just stealing other people's valuable belongings, he spends some time with the victim, acquires their trust, then robs them out of their wealth. In a way, it's even worse than your run-of-the-mill thieves.

But what makes him unique is his target. Laurent won't swindle just any random rich guy. He specifically targets those who gain their wealth through illegal means. In short, he only targets criminals. That's why Laurent always fashioned himself as a gentleman thief.

4. Loser From Dimension W

Loser is a thief who always announces his criminal act and even makes a big spectacle out of it. He wears a flashy mask and extravagant costume. He uses high-tech gadgets and machinery. He is extremely skilled in martial arts, and always manages to slip by the authorities. And yet, he never achieved his objective. Not even once. Hence the nickname loser.

But what people don't know is the fact that Loser never actually fail. He simply hides his true objective behind the flair of stealing fancy art pieces. What he truly wants is revenge on the company that has ruined his life. And what Loser does now is simply collecting the secret items that are necessary to exact his revenge under the guise of elaborate thievery.

3. Kaito Kid From Detective Conan

Announcing the intention to steal something is not a unique trait to Loser. Other thieves have done so before him with the most famous one being Arsene Lupin. But none of them can hold a candle to Kaito Kid. Because Kid always goes above and beyond on his announcement.

He will send a nice letter either to the police or to the owner of the items that he's about to steal. Those letters contain a very detailed time and place of his act. But unlike Loser, Kid never fails to follow that schedule. No matter how tight the security system may be, Kid will always manage to steal the treasure.

2. Ren Amamiya From Persona 5 The Animation

In the world of Persona 5, certain people have the ability to infiltrate somebody's unconscious world that governs their thoughts and behavior. Ren Amamiya, also known as Joker, is the leader of a group that can do such a thing. They call themselves the Phantom Thieves of Heart. And their mission is to steal the twisted desires that rest within the heart of a cruel and dangerous person.

Once a person's lost their wicked desires, they will have a chance of hearts and regain their actual self. This way, the perpetrator will have the chance to realize their own sins and try to mend their wicked way. Some are even willing to confess to their crimes. In a way, this is actually a rather harmless and wholesome act of thievery.

1. Chrollo Lucilfer From Hunter x Hunter

There's a group of thieves in the world of Hunter x Hunter called the Phantom Troupe. Each member is a skilled nen user with a very specific ability that is highly suitable for their job. Chrollo Lucilfer is the leader of the Troupe. And his nen ability is stealing other people's nen ability.

Once stolen, the ability will appear as an entry in his special book called the "Bandit's Secret". To use it, he only needs to flip to the desired page, and activate that particular ability. That overpowered nen ability combined with his superb physical and martial arts prowess along with his sharp-witted nature make Chrollo one of the most dangerous thieves in the world of anime.

Final Thoughts

Anime has the power to create something amazing and strange that may not be possible in the real world. This unique take on thieves is the perfect example of that. There is no such thing as a thief that can rob a human's desire or steal a person's unique ability in the real world. But in the world of anime, everything is possible. And that is one of the reasons why we love to watch anime, don't you agree?

This is not an exhaustive list by any means. That's why if you know any unique anime thieves that's not appear on this list, please do share them in the comment section below.
