After the sad passing of his father, Mikadono Shougo will soon inherit his father’s company. There’s a catch, however—Shougo must attend a specific school and get himself a girlfriend for him to eventually marry as soon as he graduates. The condition is simple enough and Miryuin Academy, the school he enrolled in, is full of beautiful girls to win over, but there’s a problem—Shougo has a long-lost little sister hiding among the students and she is determined to marry him. So before committing to a girl to love and marry, Shougo must find his little sister or he may end up marrying a blood relative and ruin the reputation and inheritance of his father’s company.

The concept of HenSuki is simple: our hero must find out who the mystery is girl and give her a proper answer. Keiki knows several girls who are likely to be his Cinderella but finding it out is difficult because the girls’ perverted personalities don’t match Cinderella’s feelings towards him. The same thing can be said about Shougo’s situation in NakaImo: Find a girl he truly loves and then marry her, all while finding out who among the potential love interests is his little sister. And speaking of the little sister, both HenSuki and NakaImo share some incest elements featuring a little sister having romantic or sexual desire towards their big brothers.

Shinozaki Haruka gathers his courage and confesses his love towards class representative Kousaka Akiho and, lucky for him, Akiho accepts his feelings. However, Akiho is completely clueless about relationships and how to make her boyfriend happy, so the first thing that comes to her mind is to study the various sex positions and sexual fetishes.

To a lot of guys, a girlfriend having an interest in sex is great, but Haruka confessed his feelings towards Akiho because he loves her and genuinely wants to know her more. Yeah, sure, a couple ending up having sex is the current societal norm, but Haruka is more focused on what’s going on in his heart rather than what’s happening under his pants. Akiho isn’t a pervert per se, but learning the many positions of the Kama Sutra or studying what a boyfriend wants from his girlfriend are just her own silly ways of understanding how romance between man and woman works. Akiho is just an innocent girl with no experience at all! But anyway, love isn’t all about sex and, eventually, Akiho will realize this as she keeps hanging out with her boyfriend Haruka. True love is also something Keiki from HenSuki wants, so despite having many chances of exploiting his classmates’ fetishes, Keiki rejects any sexual advances because he thinks intimate moments, be they sexual or not, are best experienced when he and the girl love each other.

In Japan, having blonde hair or dying your hair blonde makes you a troublemaker or someone with a bad personality. This stereotype is a problem for Hasegawa Kodaka who is looking to start a normal high school life because he has blonde hair and an intimidating face. Being labeled as a delinquent, Kodaka is alone throughout his first month in high school, but all that changes when a loner girl named Yozora approaches him to start a club together that is specifically made just to find new friends to talk with. Welcome to the Neighbor’s Club, where oddballs gather and do their best to be friends with each other.

The girls in HenSuki each have their own kind of fetishes, but they don’t actually show them to everyone at school. The only person apart from the girls in HenSuki is Keiki and no matter how extreme their fetishes are, Keiki doesn’t ridicule them and just accepts what they are because they’re all friends. It’s the same with the members of the Neighbor’s Club in Haganai with our main character Kodaka getting to know the various girls with their own set of personality quirks that they don’t show in public. We have Yozora who is strict and blunt with her words but, in fact, she’s looking for a friend to talk to. Sena is popular in school with many admirers and is treated like a queen for her beauty and manners, but behind closed doors, she’s an otaku who spends her time playing video games, especially—and often—pornographic visual novels. Both HenSuki and Haganai also revolve around the main character getting to know everyone and bringing all of them together despite their sometimes-conflicting personalities (especially Sena and Yozora).

Ousai Private Academy is opening its doors to allow boys to study in the once all-girls school. One of the first boys to enroll is our main protagonist, Tsuda Takatoshi, a normal high school student who chose Ousai Private Academy, not because of its majority-female students, but rather because the school is close to his home. Unfortunately, his supposed upcoming life as a normal student is disrupted when he is stopped by the school’s student council president Amakusa Shino for his improper appearance. And to make matters worse, Shino forces Takatoshi to be the student council vice president because Shino believes he can provide some useful insight into how boys behave and help the school transition into a co-ed one.

Seitokai Yakuindomo is more focused on verbal humor rather than visual humor compared to HenSuki, but both are quite similar with a normal guy hanging out with a group of girls that are perverts. Class president Amakusa Shino is hardworking, diligent, talented, and respected among the students in Ousai Academy, but she has a perverted side she shamelessly shows to the members of the student council. Shino cracks jokes and makes lewd remarks that would make any guy uncomfortable. Though you could say it’s her way of expressing her interest in the opposite sex because Ousai Private Academy recently became a co-ed school, which drastically changes its dynamics. There’s also the secretary Shichijou Aria who is equally dirty-minded, but you could say she’s a bit different than Shino because Aria has more to her chest than Shino.

Japan is known throughout the world as the pioneer of good morals, purity, and discipline for banning indecent language, suppressing inappropriate behavior, and every form of entertainment that contains pornography or anything that will cause people to degrade into sexual deviancy is outlawed. But one girl defies the system and believes that sex, sex education, human biology, dirty humor, and dirty language are harmless, shouldn’t be outlawed, and should be taught to everyone. And thus, the half-naked rebel exhibitionist Blue Snow is born! Her current objective? Shimoneta is a story where being a pervert and defending the right to know sex are the main focus. The story starts out with typical high school student Okuma Tanukichi helping the rebel group SOX and its perverted rebel leader—known as Blue Snow—against the Peace Maker Control, and by extension the Japanese government, by spreading lewd images and magazines throughout educational institutions to teach the students about the truth of love, romance, sex, and the natural biological responses happening within the body. Throughout the anime, we get to see upstanding students degrade into sexual deviants, not because the rebel group SOX is spreading porn around, but rather this supposedly-perfect morality system strictly imposed by the Japanese government has side effects. HenSuki’s story isn’t as complex as Shimoneta, but both have stories centering around perverted characters. Sayuki, Yuika, Mao, Mizuha, and Koharu have their own unique fetishes, but each has their own reasons why they became a masochist or a sadist or have a big brother complex. These perverted traits are a biological response, and just like Shimoneta, they’re a byproduct of society.

Matsutaka Nanako has a crush on Musashi Komugi and her naiveté makes her join the Abnormal Physiology Seminar, a college seminar that Komugi is a part of. As the name suggests, the seminar is focused on researching abnormal (“hentai” also means “abnormal”) physiology, ranging from raising fruit flies inside someone’s ear canal to secretly urinating in public while wearing adult diapers… wait, what? With so many social misfits around her, Nanako must keep her sanity in check.

HenSemi is quite different from the rest of the list because it isn’t set in high school and it’s by no means a harem anime, its visuals and gags are on an extreme that will either make you feel aroused uncomfortable disgusted, or all of the above—Nanako is trying to keep her sanity in check, Komugi does disgusting experiments and has an NTR fetish (loves to see his girlfriend cheating on him), Miwako is okay having sex with anyone and is a masochist, just to mention a few. But if you want to see more stories focusing on oddballs or even perverted characters, HenSemi is a good pick. What HenSemi and HenSuki have in common is that both shows have a cast of social misfits hanging out together, though HenSemi is focused more on the interaction between perverted characters while in HenSuki, the actions, motivations and goals of the perverted characters revolve around the hero Keiki. But take heed, dear reader—HenSemi’s perverted characters aren’t for the faint of heart.
