Ryuuko Matoi does not have the easiest life. Her father has been murdered, so one day decides that she needs to get revenge. She enrolls in Honnouji Academy. By chance, she comes into contact with Senketsu, a sentient uniform. Ryuuko then is imbued with a power to fight back against the superpowered students of Honnouji Academy.

Taking the remaining half of her father’s invention, the Scissor Blade, she sets out to conquer the school. Why? Well the student council president, Satsuki Kiryuuin, has information for Ryuuko. Secrets and strange events await Ryuuko in the academy as she struggles to find answers. Ryuuko rises up against the system to fight back against the elite four. Can she handle it? Kick back, relax, and check it out!

The art style shared by P&S and Kill la Kill is very much the same. It is anime that is non-traditional and turns the concept of “animation” on its head. You have two unique heroes that are off on a journey of redemption. Albeit, it may not seem that way. Let’s also talk about these transformation sequences. While Ryuuko’s is a bit more truly derived from the Gurren Lagann-style of evolution, P&S is the same where it almost stops everything and begins to make sense for a split second before going at you 100mph again. The same also goes for the attacks and everything being clothing based. Take a look for yourselves, though!

Luluco is a sweet, middle school girl who lives in Ogikubo. It’s the last major Space Immigration Zone on Earth. Luluco is upbeat, has a crush on a boy, wants to be normal, oh and she accidentally freezes her father, who works for Space Patrol and then proceeds to break him. After trying to get some help from Space Patrol, they suggest that she work for them while they can figure out crimes in her school. Complete with a goofy and embarrassing transformation, she sets out to not only find a way to help her father but crack down on illegal activities.

Here we go again with another “unlikely hero” setup. The transformations are a bit out there for Luluco and Panty and Stocking. They do attack, there are lots of supernatural elements to it, and when you get down to it, the humor is quite stupid as well. However, it is not bad humor as it is rather entertaining. The entire premise of the show too, when you see it in motion, while good, is also churlish. These two series even share the same director! While Panty and Stocking may never get a season two, it is close to save that the overall feel of Luluco is that of a second season minus the sex jokes. Check out the PV below!

The future is now. Humans and various other alien races now live together. What do they do? Hang out, travel through space, there is also a system for bounty hunters to bring in aliens to be registered and collect a sizeable reward. Dandy is one such bounty hunter, he works together on his ship with QT, a robot and vacuum cleaner, and Meow, a humanoid like cat creature who is a bum.

Together, the three of them traverse through the universe looking for unregistered and unclassified aliens while trying not to starve to death. In the meantime, they will come across melting planets, hot women, zombies, and even form their own band! Dandy travels through space looking for aliens, cash, and women baby!

Right off the bat, we do have to mention the art style. Very unique and very well done. While a lot of people look to Space Dandy as the sequel that never was to Cowboy Bebop, Space Dandy shares a lot more with Panty and Stocking. The sex jokes are everywhere and both series do come across as quite crass. We also have a clash of supernatural, (hey, what is to say that we don’t get fallen angels on here one day?), with futuristic. Anything is possible. Take a look below to learn more!

Dead Leaves is a movie that made its debut, pre-Gurren Lagann so please, do not say that it rips of it in the art aspect. Pandy, that’s right not “Panty”, wakes up one day with Retro on Earth with total amnesia. They try to collect themselves and end up stealing and pillaging to get food, clothing, and transportation. Caught and convicted though, they end up locked up on the moon in an infamous prison called “Dead Leaves”. The problem, though, is that this is no ordinary prison. Here, genetic cloning is carried out and horrible experiments are carried out. Pandy and Retro decide it is time to break out of Dead Leaves before they too end up dead. What happens is nothing but pure chaos and comedy.

Dead Leaves is probably the most similar to Panty and Stocking right after Kill la Kill if not before it. Jam packed full of action, humor, dirty jokes, and similar art styles, these two will keep you glued to the screen laughing and wanting more as you watch their antics. Panty and Stocking are also trying to break free from Earth and get back to Heaven while Pandy and Retro are trying to get to freedom.

The protagonists in these two series too are not the shining example of what a hero is. Crude, rude, and sex-driven, these Pandy, as well as Panty and Stocking, will take a bit to warm up to. You will not love them out of the starting gate, but eventually, you’ll come around. For another fantastic one, here is the trailer.

We are calling the series Shimoneta. Thanks for understanding. Surprise, surprise, Japan has decided to ban anything that is considered unclean and obscene. In a weird and creepy dictatorship way, people are now regulated to wearing collars that keep them from doing anything obscene. Tanukichi Okuma is a high school student and the son of someone who is now considered a domestic terrorist. What did his parent do?

Well, they opposed the obscenity laws. Tanukichi joins the student council to get closer to his childhood friend Anna. However Ayame, the vice-president is actually a criminal who distributes illegal material. Suddenly Tanukichi is now a part of the organization SOX, which spreads illegal paraphernalia. Launching an attack on the government, suddenly those who he thought he liked, are now the targets of his attacks…

Shimoneta and Panty and Stocking share the most obvious bridge of humor. Hilarious and nonstop, the sex jokes never end between these two series. Both Shimoneta and Panty and Stocking are set in alternate worlds. P&S is in a pseudo-America while Shimoneta is set in a false Japan. Rock and Tanukichi are sucked into cooperation by the aggressive female characters and pushed to their limits while doing so. Everyone is quite twisted between the character lineups as well from Shimoneta and Panty and Stocking. Much like Panty and Stocking as well, there is not a lot of thinking that is required while watching either of these shows which makes them good watches.

The final anime rounding out this list is a classic that seems to be making a bit of a comeback. Dirty Pair, which coincidentally is not about a pair of underwear, socks, or pants, features two consultants named Kei and Yuri. When people of the future are troubled, they call upon the World Welfare Work Association or the WWWA for short.

The WWWA dispatches agents, called Trouble Consultants, to help you remedy your problems no matter what. That is of course… as long as you don’t get the team of partner agents called “Dirty Pair”. If those two show up, you are bound to end with more problems than you started with. Dial up the WWWA today and try your luck!

Kei and Yuri , much like Panty and Stocking, are a bit out of touch with the world. While they do claim that they are “Lovely Angels”, in reality, or rather outside of their minds, they are actually horrible and a danger to themselves and everything and everyone around them. They are the Dirty Pair. Getting them is a sign of the woes to come. Both sets of girls tease their partners about their obsession with boys.

Dirty Pair is perfect for those who like Panty and Stocking with the flow it has and humor. Both sets of girls are also the type to hit first and ask questions later. Both sets of girls are “dispatched” on missions as well. Panty and Stocking may be a permanent one, and the girls may be unsuited for the jobs, but that is what makes both shows interesting.
