Like Super Smash Bros, players are given stock lives and as they are knocked off the stage they begin to lose stock until their defeat. Blue Mammoth Games aims to make Brawlhalla a truly tournament like fighter hosting money tournaments each year. Simple, fun and deep, Brawlhalla is a truly amazing game that deserves much praise.

It’s fitting for our first game on our list of games like Super Smash Bros that we go with a game like Brawlhalla. Developer Blue Mammoth Games made a 2D fighter with controls that allow almost anyone to pick up and play for full enjoyment. Those looking for a more serious fighter can also find plenty to enjoy, learning the various character’s special movements and how maps can work in their favor. Making this game even sweeter, Brawlhalla doesn’t cost a single cent. That means you have no excuse to not give Brawlhalla a try, what do you have to lose?

Rivals of Aether has players using various elemental warriors as they battle for dominance. Using an old like graphical style, players will be treated to a visually retro 2D Fighter. Inspired by games like Super Smash Bros, Rivals of Aether may be an indie title by the mind of Dan Fornace, but it sure feels akin to a triple A title. Rivals of Aether includes a story mode and multiplayer, so there’s plenty of ways to play.

Games don’t always have to have impressive graphics or complex fighting concepts to wow people and that is seen by Rivals of Aether. Made to be like a simplified Super Smash Bros, Rivals of Aether boasts a deep 2D fighting game despite using simple controls. That is accomplished thanks to having eight fighters who all use different elements such as fire and ice to name a few. Dan Fornace really did an incredible job making Rivals of Aether and you’ll appreciate it indeed. Overall if you need an incredibly simple version of Super Smash Bros that will still give you the same amount of enjoyment, Rivals of Aether is a must buy.

The J Battle Festival is a tournament that is only held every 45 years. Fighters from all over various worlds and dimensions compete to be considered the best of the best. Players will follow one of four arcs using characters from the popular anime and manga world of Jump like DragonBall, Bleach, Naruto and many more. The characters may all have different reasons to be here, but their goals are all similar. The ultimate anime and manga match up begins here in J-Stars Victory VS.

As huge fans of anime over here at Honey’s Anime, J-Stars Victory VS+ is aimed right up our alley. Playing as dozens of famous warriors such as Ichigo, Goku and Kenshiro, there are plenty of reasons to love this Super Smash Bros style fighter. While not 2D like Super Smash Bros, player can enjoy a free 3D battle arena where players will use their individual skills to see who stands as the best Jump warrior. We do recommend the PS4 Version as it’s an enhanced version of the J-Stars Victory VS+ game. Let’s run a check list shall we, like Super Smash Bros and stars dozens of anime and manga characters…is there a reason not to love J-Stars Victory VS+.

Fights don’t always have to aim for beating the snot out of each other with their fists. In Lethal League, players aim to beat their opponents by using a ball that is slammed back and forth. As the ball is hit it begins to increase in speed and movement and failure to hit it back will knock the player out thus losing the match for the opponent. Similar to games like Super Smash Bros, players will be place on 2D stages using various characters all with different styles and ways of slamming the ball around. While a fist might not be hitting you, a ball hurling a hundred miles or so will definitely feel just as painful in Lethal League.

Lethal League may not have recognizable faces like Super Smash Bros, but it sure does have a style all of its own. The simple but fun concept of a literal hot potato like concept seems ridiculous but plays in fast and fun fights. Players will find enjoy the frantic nature of gameplay especially when you begin to add more and more players for a truly awesome experience. Team Reptile took the theory of the 2D fighter and ran wild with it and we here at Honey’s Anime truly appreciate it. Play Lethal League if you want a 2D fighter that oozes art and originality.

In Brawlout, created by Angry Mob Games, players fight for the sweet feeling of victory. Using several characters, players can customize each fighter and give them move sets they feel will help push their chances of victory. Up to eight players can battle it on the screen all at the same time ensuring some crazy but fun battles. Taking homage from games like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and Super Smash Bros, you’re sure to love Brawlout’s incredibly detailed fighting system and gameplay mechanics. Online or Offline, Brawlout will be a game you’ll truly enjoy and want to replay over and over.

Brawlout totes itself as a game similar to many fighting games, especially Super Smash Bros, and we agree with that statement. While games like Super Smash Bros are sillier with their fighting mechanics such as giving players items, Brawlout aims to be more for those who want a skilled based fighting game. Players will enjoy truly making characters that adhere to their style of play, leading to the small roster not feeling so small. A player may use the same fighter as another but while one may use close up attacks, the other may have customized his warrior to adhere to long range combat. This system of gameplay truly makes Brawlout a lot fun and truly unique. If you love Super Smash Bros but want a little more skill base from it, then we point you towards Brawlout.

When a strange set of time holes erupt all over, various PlayStation heroes and villains get thrown together. Unaware of why or how, the various warriors look at one another with mixed reactions. Some don’t wish to fight, others however see this as another great opportunity to test their mettle. Regardless of their thoughts the various PlayStation characters begin to do battle. What awaits them is either victory, or utter defeat…

We knew that we had to end our list on a game that not only rivals the ideal of Super Smash Bros, but it fits the qualifications needed to be on our list. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale was aimed to do exactly what Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros game did but obviously uses Sony characters. Players will fight with or against legendaries like Jax and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Nathan Drake and several others in various environments from their gaming worlds. While it can be considered a clone of Super Smash Bros, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Sony tried to incorporate a story mode as well as several gaming tweaks to make sure it wasn’t just a mindless clone. Overall, we feel this is the best way to end our amazing list since this is the best title to be considered like Super Smash Bros.
