3 Major similarities Shared by Shingeki no Kyojin & Koutetsujou no Kabaneri
1. Plot
The plot of both Attack on Titan and Koutetsujou no Kabaneri are extremely similar starting from the near extinction of mankind at the hands of a monster to the main character who has had a tragic backstory and wants to extinguish the monsters. Not to mention too, these monsters are almost entirely unknown. Ikoma is very similar to Eren as he has a strong desire to kill off the Kabane and make it so that humans can live in peace once more. Ikoma also has the help of a girl who is as capable as Mikasa named Mumei. Together, Ikoma and Mumei do what others are too scared to do and risk their lives to save mankind.
2. Discrimination
In Attack on Titan, there is a lot of discrimination on Eren’s part due to the fact that he is capable of transforming into a titan. In Koutetsujou no Kabaneri, characters who have been bitten or even possibly bitten don’t hesitate to either kill themselves by detonating a small bomb over their hearts, or be killed by others. Then we have Ikoma and Mumei who are Kabaneri, and so many of the other humans are fearful of them both. Ikoma and Mumei are treated like second class citizens due to their being Kabaneri, despite the fact that they actually can and do help mankind more than mankind itself much like what Eren, Mikasa and the gang do as well.
3. Fighting
Let us not forget about the fighting style against the monsters! While Attack on Titan utilized a 4D fighting style and blades, Koutetsujou no Kabaneri utilizes a sort of pressurized gun called a Tsuranukizutsu that can pierce through iron! Talk about something that’s strong! Also, Ikoma and his fellow fighters use the train system to their advantage, for the most part, while fighting, attempting to maneuver and outrun the Kabane. While the fighting styles aren’t entirely the same, they are very similarly innovative and give the anime its own special touch.
Like Shingeki no Kyojin? Watch Macross Delta!
- Episodes: 26
- Aired: April 2016 – September 2016
Macross Delta is the next in the Macross franchise after Macross Frontier. Set eight years into the future beyond Macross Frontier, Macross Delta is supposed to be the sequel to Frontier, but do not fear! You can easily enjoy this show by just jumping in. In Macross Delta, the Var Syndrome, a mysterious virus that infects people making them violent and attack each other, is spreading throughout the galaxy. Walkure, or the Singing Songstresses of the Galaxy, are able to quell those suffering from the Var Syndrome and bring them back to reality while being supported by the Delta Squadron. However, embarrassed and humiliated by what happened in the past, the Kingdom of Wind along with the Aerial Knight Valkyries rise up to bring chaos into the galaxy while fighting for revenge for their planet of Windermere. Macross Delta follows the clashes of these two titans and the newest member of Walkure, Frejya Wion, runs away from her home planet of Windermere to join Walkure.
3 Major similarities Shared by Shingeki no Kyojin & Macross Delta
1. Complicated Pasts
You would be living under a rock and drinking all of the Koolaid in the Galaxy if you think that Eren and Freyja have had simple pasts. The outer wall destroyed by Titans, Eren and co had to leave and flee inward, but not before he sees his mother brutally murdered and then eaten by a Titan. In the constant portrayals and flashbacks of Windermere, Frejya can see the giant scar left on Windermere and the people seem to live in what is a perpetual winter. This is usually a metaphor for death. Eren struggles against the titans. Freyja is caught in a tight spot as she is Windermerean, but joins with Walkure to fight against the Proto-culture seeking Aerial Knights. Not to mention too; they both face discrimination. People freak out about Eren becoming a titan, while people have problems trusting Freyja and call her a traitor due to her heritage, rather than judging her for who she is as a person.
2. Strange Foes
No one really knows exactly where they have come from or why the titans exist. They just do and humanity has been living behind the walls for security in Shingeki no Koyjin. They have the exploration corps to go out and learn more, but it’s hard when they cannot communicate with the titans. In Macross Delta, the Var Syndrome is strange in that there is a special way it is transmitted, and the Song of the Wind is what controls outbreaks. The proto-culture ruins too seem to be something that is necessary to help them hence why the Aerial Knights and Kingdom of Wind are so interested in them. Unfortunately, no one really knows why or what will happen. We just have to stay tuned as they reveal more!
3. Fighting Scenes
Shingeki no Kyojin has some of the most interesting and captivating fight scenes of, arguably, recent years. Well done and suspenseful, you feel as if you are right there on the front lines with Eren and company as they explore and fight these creepy beings called “Titans.” In Macross Delta, the Delta Squadron, which includes Hayate and more, fight back. How else can these action packed scenes even be better in Macross Delta? Walkure sings along with those who fight; further enhancing their fighting capabilities, healing those with the Var Syndrome, and improving their reflexes. Shingeki no Kyojin is known for its epic opening music and fight scenes while Macross Delta pairs some of the most epic or moving songs with specific fight scenes. That’s what makes music junkies like these two shows so much; the emotions evoked are par none!
