Looks like a new one from Studio Deen. Who knows. It does appear to be a horror anime though. The trailer was really intense.

This is about exposing hidden evil secrets in society. Interesting. How will this turn out? It already sounds good enough for me.

I don't know any of the seiyuu so I will go into this one with an open mind.

Synopsis

There are definitely the following kinds of people around you: leaders, entrepreneurs, superstars, and prodigies. Even if you work hard, there is no way you can reach the level that they are on. These people are referred to as ‘geniuses’. However, these geniuses all have one thing in common. That’s right! They all have ‘that’ with them. It’s something that they can never tell the common masses about. It’s called…Aguu!!

Ai is an average girl who is a dancer that you could find just about anywhere. Her best friend Machi is discovered to be a genius dancer thrusting Ai into depression. However, one day Ai learns the ‘secret’ behind her talent. All of it stems from evil magic that created the existence of palm-sized angels known as ‘Aguu’. Whomever has an Aguu becomes a genius among the masses. In order to save Machi who has become a tailor, one who creates Aguu, Ai becomes a savior; one who has risen in opposition against tailors for generations.

Three Episode Impression

Aguu are small dolls sewn into people’s bodies that make them have talent that they did not previously have. Why? Because those dolls are, through black magic, originally geniuses of their own. After being shrunk down to the size of dolls, these people are essentially a half step away from magical voodoo dolls giving average humans superhuman talent. Machi is one such girl and her best friend is Ai. Machi is such a great ballerina compared to Ai, but then after an encounter with a Savior named Rashou, she learns that Machi has aguu inside of her. Now Ai finds herself in a position of either getting an aguu for herself, or betraying her best friend and dashing her dreams.

Honestly, we were a bit cautious about starting another show from this production company due to the story being a bit odd and the fact that a lot of swings have been misses as of late. However, it seems that they have finally found good footing with this work. Aguu is interesting, oddly deep, and yet managed to maintain its roots from the chinese source while still having a worldwide appeal. We saw Greek text for the first time in anime! In the first 3 episodes you get conflict, death, confrontation, and we even get to see the mastermind behind it all and the birth of a super-villain. Aguu is… good. Something we would not think we would say when looking at the PV, but the story does play out well. The colors are quite vivid and while Studio Deen is rather lazy with tons of pans of static scenes, the voice acting and story are great. We will definitely keep watching to see where this unique story goes.

Characters & Voice Actors List

Ai

Voice Actor: Noriko Shibasaki

16 years old. Special skill: Ballet.
Ai is a hardworking girl who is passionate about the excellence of ballet. She has both courage and a sense of justice, allowing her to amaze others around her. However, if one has to point out her flaws, she is a bit rash and easily duped. She can also be a bit spontaneous sometimes.

Machi

Voice Actor: Eriko Matsui

16 years old. Special skill: Ballet.
Machi is cautious, yet quite vain as well. She was considered to be the complete package as a ballet dancer with good looks, money, and talent, but due to a certain thing, her entire life undergoes a massive change.

Rashou

Voice Actor: Wataru Takagi

81 years old. Special Skill: Go.
Honest, Rashou is average when it comes to his virtue and abilities, but he has a strong heart where once he decides something, he does not give up. Rashou does have a stubborn side though. He is the 140th Generation Evangelist of the Saviors Brotherhood.

Rafu

Voice Actor: Satoshi Shibasaki

15 years old. Special Skill: Fighting.
Rafu has a strong sense of justice, but he can get emotional quickly and is hot-tempered. He always wants to resolve things with violence. He deeply respects his grandfather, Rashou.
